POSITION: Full-time Faculty and Assistant Chair

Effective immediately: Full-time Faculty and Assistant Chair – College of Health Professions and Natural Sciences, - Wilmington University, New Castle Campus.

Requirements:
A Master's Degree in Natural Sciences or a related field is required (Bioinformatics/Computational Biology, Biology, Data Science, or closely related discipline preferred). A Doctoral degree in Natural sciences or a related field is required (Bioinformatics/Computational Biology, Biology, Data Science, or closely related discipline preferred). The incumbent must have up to 1 to 3 years of proven teaching excellence in natural sciences, including preparation in teaching and learning principles including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Wilmington University database management systems (e.g., Canvas LMS, Banner, BDM, Recruit, or other Microsoft-based Student Information System) is required. Detail-oriented and able to work with diverse populations. Demonstrated knowledge of Zoom and Teams Video Conferencing. Possess strong written and verbal communication. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a service-oriented environment with competing demands. Self-directed, independent worker with sound logic and reasoning in identifying alternatives or approaches to problem-solving. Must demonstrate respect for diversity in the workplace and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all situations.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Work collaboratively with the academic advisors and/or registrar's office concerning students' progress.

  • Participate in student advisement and support.

  • Review program applicants and conduct candidate interviews based on program requirements. 

  • Create, support, and expand individual and community partnerships in support of the Academic College and its goals.

  • Assist in the operation of program advisory committees.

  • Collaborate with University Relations to promote the visibility and growth of natural sciences programs, facilitating relationships with stakeholders and affiliate organizations of interest. 

  • Assist Program Chair(s) in managing the overall operations and curriculum of the assigned academic program(s), ensuring that the programs comply with any internal requirements such as program review and outcomes assessment as well as external requirements for approval, accreditation, and licensure.

  • Assist the Program Chair(s) to recruit and hire appropriate faculty for teaching assignments in conjunction with the course schedule.

  • Mentor new faculty and ensure support of the University's mission, the Academic College philosophy, priorities, and procedures.

  • Participate in the annual review process of adjunct faculty within the program(s) in accordance with established procedures, in conjunction with the Program Chair(s).

  • Meet with the program(s) advisory committee(s) as directed by the Program Chair(s) and/or Academic Director.

  • Oversee the syllabi and course template content for each course in the respective program(s), in conjunction with the Program Chair(s).

  • Comply with Wilmington University's Teaching Expectations document.

  • Teach courses in the classroom and online as per faculty contract. 

  • Promote the professional development of faculty assigned to the academic program(s) including the regular review and communication to faculty feedback from students via the student course feedback process.

  • Participate in monthly Chairs Roundtable meetings offered by the Center for Teaching Excellence.

  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives of the Academic College.

  • Provide forward-thinking, optimistic, and creative leadership for assigned program(s) with the Program Chair(s). 

  • Demonstrate high levels of competence in oral and written communications with all stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, administration, and the community).

  • Participate in and attend Academic College and University functions (e.g., faculty meetings, Faculty Senate, commencement).

  • Comply with the Wilmington University Faculty Handbook.

  • Support the Wilmington University Institutional Priorities.

  • Ensure the relevancy of the curriculum remains current and futuristic.

  • Promote and foster an inclusive and diverse environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean and/or Academic Director.

Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., depending on the needs of the department(s) and/or the University. The incumbent will be expected to teach face-to-face lab courses at the Brandywine or New Castle sites. The incumbent must maintain a flexible work schedule to work early evening hours, based on the course teaching schedule. Lab prep and maintenance duties may be required. Travel to other Wilmington University sites is required.
