THIS POSITION IS IMMEDIATELY ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University of Rhode Island (URI) seeks a highly strategic, execution-focused leader to serve as Project Director, School of Medicine Implementation. This individual will lead the project to coordinate the launch of URI's new School of Medicine-one of the most significant academic, healthcare, and economic initiatives in the state.

Reporting initially to the President of the University, working closely with the University's implementation consultant, the Provost, and partnering with the Founding Dean upon their appointment, the Project Director will be responsible for end-to-end execution of the medical school implementation strategy, ensuring alignment across governance, accreditation, operations, fundraising, facilities, and statewide partners.

This role directs the coordination, integration, and execution of a complex, multi-year initiative targeting inaugural student matriculation in FY30.



Duties and Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the University's primary liaison to the implementation consultant, coordinating work plans, deliverables, governance activities, and transition of implementation responsibilities to the University and Founding Dean.

In collaboration with University leadership and upon appointment of the Founding Dean, steward the overall implementation of the URI School of Medicine, coordinating all aspects from planning through launch and early operations.

Establish timelines, dependencies, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery.

Provide regular, data-driven progress reporting to senior leadership.

Prepare executive briefings, reports, presentations, and decision-support materials for University leadership, the Board of Trustees, state officials, and other key stakeholders to support informed decision-making and project accountability. Develop and manage an integrated master implementation plan aligned to:? Leadership and accreditation? Finance and Facilities Funding and Resource Development? Communications and Public Affairs? Community Engagement

Serve as the operational lead for the School of Medicine Steering Group, in support of the President, Provost, and senior leadership.

Work with the Founding Dean to manage the LCME accreditation process.

Support the onboarding of the Founding Dean (target mid FY27) and serve as an advisor to them.

Partner with Government Relations and University leadership to coordinate legislative engagement, state agency partnerships, and implementation activities requiring state support.

Coordinate with the URI Foundation to support execution of a major fundraising campaign (~$100M goal) to meet startup funding requirements.

Work with Founding Dean to develop short- and long-term financial sustainability models, andtrack financial milestones critical to reporting deadlines, accreditation milestones, and launch readiness.

Work with the Administration and Finance teams of the University to develop and implement a phased facilities strategy which includes:? Renovation of existing campus spaces in preparation for initial cohorts? Expansion to support enrollment growth? Planning for a future dedicated medical school facility
