The Department of Theatre & Dance at CU Boulder invites applications for the Temporary Production Coordinator position! This role provides essential operational and organizational support for the Department of Theatre and Dance (THDN) production season, which acts as a laboratory for our students. The Production Coordinator organizes scheduling and communications for the entire season of theatre and dance productions, providing vital collaboration across all production areas to ensure smooth operations and production safety during the educational experience for our students. This role is responsible for assigning, hiring, training, and mentoring of student stage managers, house managers, and run crew positions. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Production Coordination
- Coordinate the season planning process in collaboration with Theatre Technical Director, Director of Dance Production, and Associate Chairs, including the organization of documentation, communication, and department participation in the season selection process. Create and lead the full season production calendar of rehearsals, build periods, technical/dress rehearsals, performances, all design and production meetings, etc. Create and lead electronic resources and communications for all collaborators in the production season to ensure that needs for dance and theatre productions are met.
- Ensure spaces for all dance and theatre production needs are reserved in the EMS system and communicated to relevant personnel.
- Schedule, organize, and facilitate all production meetings with appropriate production personnel, including faculty, staff, students, and professional guests. Ensure strong communications and awareness between all artistic and production areas of dance and theatre.
- Handle the audition process for the season, including communication, sign-up process, audition and callback operations, etc.
- Be present at dance and theatre technical and dress rehearsals to ensure a safe environment is maintained, mentor student stage managers and run crew, and facilitate communications between personnel of the various production areas where needed, etc.
- Ensure all production personnel are aware of rights and royalties contract requirements and help maintain compliance with licensing agreements
- Work with department staff to ensure effective organization and communication of complimentary ticket code processes for all production personnel of dance and theatre productions
- Participate actively in the development of efficient processes to support the THDN production season, and other duties as needed to ensure safe and effective operations.
- Handle coordination with other entities such as facilities management, access services, campus security, and CU Presents to ensure smooth operations, safe use of facilities, and strong campus partnerships
- Act as the point person for CU Presents, our on-campus ticketing and marketing partners, for all communications regarding season information, production programs, and audience services (accessibility needs, content warnings, etc.)
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of student house managers for the season. Ensure proper safety training and communication protocols for house managers and ushers to maintain audience and venue safety, including overseeing house report expectations and emergency procedures. Ensure smooth operations for front of house services in collaboration with CU Presents staff. Maintain availability to address production-related problems, issues, concerns as they may arise during the production run.
- Assign student stage managers working on THDN productions in collaboration with production faculty.
- Act as a mentor and first point of contact for stage managers. Track student progress and development for future season assignments.
- Oversee assignments and training of student run crews for THDN productions
- Assist as a point of contact for student group production needs
Depending on candidate expertise and interest, as well as departmental needs and resources, there may be an opportunity to add an additional paid appointment to teach one course per semester in a related area such as stage management.
What You Should Know
This is a mostly in-person work opportunity with the potential for hybrid work, as discussed with the supervisor. This is a full-time, temporary position for one academic year requiring mostly business hours, Monday-Friday. Evening and weekend hours are also required during certain points of the production schedule.
What We Can Offer
The hourly rate for this temporary position is $31.25.

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in a professional role with production coordination/production management responsibilities

- Strong skills in creative problem solving, written and verbal communication, and collaboration
- Ability to successfully handle multiple, sometimes contending priorities and unexpected needs as they arise
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, depending on production needs
