Position Summary
Serves as the primary administrator for student life, advocacy, and support, leading the operational execution and coordination of a cohesive and comprehensive Division for Student Success (DSS). The DSS is designed to immerse students in campus life, to support students in their campus experiences and challenges, and to foster a positive, inclusive, and safe campus environment. The role will identify student resources and other student development initiatives to build, enhance, and create a robust and vibrant student experience. Serves as a key liaison to the community for various academic and co-curricular objectives across the University, providing direction and oversight to campus operations related to student life and well-being, and supporting strategic institutional initiatives, with a goal of advancing excellence at the University of Hartford. Performs all duties in full support of the University's goals and mission, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.
Hiring Range
Starting salary is budgeted between $145,00 and $160,000, depending upon experience
Key Responsibilities
- Provides vision and leadership in the development, implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of student success and student life initiatives, plans, policies, and programs. Working collaboratively with the Student Success and Inclusive Excellence Leadership team, this position develops, implements, and evaluates student success and student life strategies utilizing data-informed metrics to improve student success, retention, and well-being outcomes. Formulates, expands, and implements student life opportunities and pathways which positively impact student success. In all efforts, focuses on optimizing and enriching student growth and experiences, creating a vibrant educational environment that fosters inclusive and enriching experiences which will prepare students for career and personal success.
- Oversees the operations and supervises the leadership of various departments that provide direct support to students including, but not limited to Residential Life, Student Engagement and Belonging, Health, Safety and Well-being, Conduct and Community Standards, Accessibility Services, Spiritual Life, and Orientation. Leads or monitors the progress of campus-wide initiatives and complex projects that impact student success and student life, ensuring timely execution and measurable outcomes. Researches and identifies industry best practices in across student success.
- Leads the development, implementation, and execution of clear and intentionally designed experiences that enhance the overall student experience. Ensures structured and meaningful opportunities are available for students to explore academic, life skill building, and career options, in support of their individual journey. Establishes, implements and reviews policies, goals, objectives, standards, and assessment tools to determine opportunities for growth and/or improvement in contributing to the overall success of students.
- Provides experienced leadership in student crisis response and complex case management. Ensures processes are timely, equitable, and grounded in both institutional policy and genuine concern for student well-being. Brings seasoned judgement and a trauma-informed approach to navigating sensitive situations that balance institutional responsibility with individual student needs. Appropriately deploy resources, manage responses, and address immediate and follow up needs. Review, update, and implement student life best practice policies, in coordination with other university resources, that ensure compliance with institutional, state, federal, and legal regulations and laws.
- Supports student leaders and organizations through regular engagement to develop and deliver programs that reach a student population, fostering leadership development, community engagement, and a strong sense of belonging that contributes to a cohesive and inclusive campus community. Maintains a visible presence at activities and programs sponsored by student organizations. Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective working relationships with key internal and external constituents to strengthen student success and purposeful pathways which enhance student interactions with individuals, groups and/or departments across campus.
- Provides recommendations to the Vice President and other key University leadership regarding objectives, strategies and resource allocations needed to achieve outlined objectives and goals related to student success and student life. Serves on internal and external committees and task forces as a representative of the University when subject matter expertise is considered beneficial and/or appropriate. Engages with the Board of Regents as appropriate.

Masters Degree Required; knowledge of a highly advanced professional discipline (eg., MD, PhD, JD or equivalent doctoral degree) preferred.
