Student Success Coordinator

Empire State University's Office of Student Support seeks applicants for a full-time Student Success Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Student Support, the Student Success Coordinator provides proactive, coordinated support to undergraduate students across the student lifecycle.

Student Success Coordinators manage an assigned caseload and deliver individualized outreach designed to strengthen persistence, remove barriers, and promote academic progress. With particular emphasis on first-term transition and ongoing engagement, SSCs integrate students' goals, readiness, and competing responsibilities into coordinated support plans. By monitoring engagement indicators and institutional data, the coordinator identifies emerging concerns, conducts targeted outreach, and facilitates timely resolution of student issues related to academic policies, university services, and institutional processes.

The Student Success Coordinator collaborates closely with faculty, academic leadership, and cross-functional offices to ensure consistent communication and effective coordination of support. The role requires maintaining expertise in university policies, appeals processes, student services systems, and data-informed engagement practices. As part of a collaborative Student Support team, the coordinator contributes to continuous improvement efforts by identifying trends, sharing insights from frontline student interactions, and strengthening workflows that enhance organizational effectiveness.

Successful candidates will demonstrate experience supporting adult and nontraditional learners in both virtual and in-person environments, with the ability to engage individuals from diverse cultural, social, and lived experiences. This position requires strong analytical judgment, professional discretion, and a commitment to holistic, student-centered support across multiple modalities

Student Success Coordinators manage a caseload of students with the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide outreach, coaching, support, resources and referrals as needed to support student success.
  • Assist students in navigating academic policies and procedures, provide technical support, and policy interpretation.
  • Process and manage service grievances and academic appeals. Assist students and faculty with problem-solving to resolve concerns.
  • Utilize university technology systems to access relevant information, document work, and ensure consistent communication and processes. Maintain complete records of all student situations in relevant databases.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and other departments to advocate for students based on individual and time-sensitive needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respectful communication when dealing with students and colleagues around sensitive academic issues.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, innovation, integrity, diversity, and student success.

Student Success Coordinators support student engagement and retention by:
  • Developing and hosting virtual and in-person student programming and engagement.
  • Supporting regional activities, events and relationships as needed to enhance student engagement and retention.
  • Monitoring and analyzing data to identify retention gaps and design effective intervention strategies.


Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in student services/student affairs.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, the public, the university community and external constituencies.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate, engage and develop rapport with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds, and varied age, gender, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to analyze, mediate, and resolve complex problems.
  • Initiative, creativity and the ability to function well in an environment that promotes both teamwork and independence.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff and administration from multiple departments.
  • Demonstration of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to empathize with students in need of academic and non-academic support.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or related area.
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a multi-person team to provide student services and support resources to students.
  • Experience with Ellucian's Banner, CRM systems or other data management and communication technology.
  • Experience with adult or non-traditional students.

Special Information:
  • Occasional travel, as well as evening and weekend hours, may be required to fulfill departmental, divisional, and university-wide commitments.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
