Anticipated Hiring Range: $40 hourly

Department Summary

East Campus Housing supports three residential communities serving CSU Monterey Bay students and families. The department is responsible for maintaining safe, functional, and well-maintained living environments that support student success and community wellbeing.
Position Summary
The Journeyman Plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems across East Campus Housing communities. This role ensures plumbing systems operate safely and efficiently, responds to service requests and emergencies, and supports overall property maintenance operations in occupied residential settings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing issues in residential units and common areas
  • Install and maintain pipes, fixtures, valves, water heaters, and related plumbing components
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize service disruptions
  • Test plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices
  • Monitor water pressure, drainage systems, and sewer operations
  • Respond to maintenance requests and plumbing emergencies, including after-hours calls
  • Oversee staff performing drain clearing and fixture replacements during unit turns
  • Communicate repair timelines with property management and residents
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable plumbing codes and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and materials used


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four (4) years of residential plumbing experience
  • Valid Journeyman Plumber license for the State of California

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in apartment communities, HOAs, or property management environments
  • Experience leading or supervising maintenance staff
  • Experience responding to after-hours emergency plumbing situations
  • Knowledge of California Plumbing Code and local municipal amendments
  • Strong customer service experience in occupied residential settings

  • On-site position located at the East Campus of CSU Monterey Bay in Marina, CA
  • Participation in an on-call rotation and response to after-hours emergencies may be required
  • May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act.
