At Utah Valley University, the Deputy Bursar supports the University's financial operations with a primary focus on the supervision of University's Business Services Staff responsible for student and non-student accounts receivable processes including billings, payment and banking processes, refunds and most importantly providing excellent and timely customer service when responding to student inquiries and accepting payment.

The Deputy Bursar plays an important role in training and supporting the staff, faculty, and students involved. If you enjoy teaching, collaborating, and helping others navigate financial processes, whether students or staff, this position may be a great fit for you.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Support the organizational structure and staffing of Accounts Receivable, Cashiers, and Student Disbursement, to effectively accomplish the department goals and objectives.
  • Oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff as it relates to the area of responsibility and/or other assigned areas.
  • Maintain and manage records with relevant and accurate information.
  • Collaborate with university departments and other providers to implement, maintain, and aid in the development of new and existing software, programs, and processes, to ensure security, efficiency, and promote a positive student experience.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and community members, as it relates to the area of responsibility.
  • Analyze and resolve issues related to financial records.
  • Represent the department in multiple functions including but not limited to: various campus-wide committees, training seminars, conferences, and workshops.
  • Consult and collaborate with various groups to further the mission of the university.
  • Assists with development and management of annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience relevant to the position's duties; or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years.

  • Knowledge of new technology, government regulations, and banking/commerce methods.

  • Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of accounts receivable functions, including billing, payment application, refunds, invoicing, and related financial systems, with prior experience managing teams performing these functions.
