Job Description

Job Summary

The Coomer Lab is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in electrophysiology to join our interdisciplinary team in February 2026, studying neural circuit regeneration in zebrafish. Our lab investigates how neurons reconnect after spinal cord injury and what rules govern the restoration of functional circuits. We combine molecular biology, advanced imaging, behavior, electrophysiology, and computational modeling to uncover principles of repair that link development, plasticity, and regeneration.

The postdoc will lead independent electrophysiology experiments, contribute to collaborative projects across the lab, and play a central role in mentoring graduate and undergraduate trainees. Success in this role means producing high-quality, independent science while also strengthening the collaborative and mentorship culture of the Coomer Lab through active collaboration across projects, sharing expertise, and supporting an environment of mutual learning and innovation.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

This is a 2-year limited-term position.

Essential Functions

Conduct independent research using patch-clamp and related electrophysiological methods to characterize neuronal function during regeneration.

Maintain and manage electrophysiology equipment, ensuring rigs and software are operational for lab members.

Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, supporting their technical training and project development.

Collaborate across divisions (molecular, behavioral, computational) to integrate electrophysiological data with imaging, genetic, and modeling approaches.

Contribute to dissemination of research through manuscripts, presentations, and conference participation.

MINIMUM REQUIRED Qualifications

PhD in Neuroscience

1-5 years of related experience in electrophysiology

Skills

Demonstrated ability to design and execute independent experiments. Commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and contributing to an inclusive lab community. Familiarity with imaging and/or computational analysis of neural activity.

Compensation
In addition to a competitive benefits package, pay for this role is typically between $45,568.27 - $61,651.19 annually covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
