Position Announcement


Utah Valley University is seeking a dynamic AI Project Manager to lead and drive AI-focused initiatives through UVU's e2i program. In this role, you will guide projects from conception to completion, ensuring meaningful outcomes for both industry partners and student teams. You will serve as the central connector between the AI Institute, academic departments, external partners, and student project teams, managing workflows, timelines, and budgets while upholding e2i's standards for professional delivery and experiential learning.

With a focus on results, collaboration, and innovation, the AI Project Manager plays a key role in advancing UVU's mission of fostering institutional excellence and preparing students for success in the evolving world of AI.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Manages the integration of AI projects into ei and supports student employees, clients, and ei directorship regarding AI tied projects. Coordination of AI-focused student project teams within the ei program. Manages daily logistics and project timelines, hires student teams, and mentors student employees' collaboration with faculty and external partners. Ensures that PMs are holding meetings, oversees the Senior PMs evaluations of PMs, and are copied on messaging between the team and the sponsor so they can mentor the students in improving their professional communication. Helps students and partners navigate ethical, technical, and academic aspects of AI collaboration.
  • Works directly with the ei Assistant Director in the planning and maintaining of internal tracking systems for project records, team placements, hardware and software resources, and collaborative partner contact info. Ensures accurate documentation of student engagement, AI project scopes, and stakeholder communication.
  • Conducts ei outreach and relationship-building with companies, startups, and nonprofits interested in AI collaboration. Works with faculty and industry collaborators to scope feasible AI-related projects and align expectations. Collaborates with UVU's AI Institute and other university departments to build bridges for long-term AI innovation efforts. Promotes cross-departmental coordination and visibility of AI-related experiential opportunities. Oversees student employees' creation of project deliverables, identifies resource needs software, hardware, cloud tools, and ensures appropriate access to platforms, resources, materials, and collaborative mentorship across campus, as needed.
  • Collects and synthesizes data on ei student outcomes and project impact. Prepares reports, project summaries, case studies, and presentations that demonstrate the value of ei and ei AI collaborations. Develops content for public sharing e.g., one-pagers, slide decks, digital portfolios to support storytelling, funding, and future engagement.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree and one year of related experience, or a combination of education and experience totaling five years. Work experience in project management.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a related field (e.g., computer science, information systems management, data science, innovation management, instructional design, or education technology), plus progressively responsible professional experience in project management.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge
  • Understanding of applied artificial intelligence concepts, data science principles, and the ethical and practical implications of AI use in academic and industry contexts.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall, and the ability to apply hybrid approaches within academic or cross-functional environments.
  • Understanding of higher education systems, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experiential learning models.
  • Familiarity with AI-related tools, platforms, and technologies, including data visualization, machine learning environments, and cloud-based collaboration systems.
  • Working knowledge of project documentation practices, including charters, backlogs, RAID logs, budgets, and artifact management.
  • Knowledge of university policies, budgeting processes, and internal approval structures that affect project timelines and execution.
Skills
  • Strong organizational skills in planning, prioritization, and tracking concurrent projects with attention to deadlines, details, and outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, including faculty, students, and external partners.

  • Skill in mentoring and coordinating student teams, supporting professional development, and fostering collaboration across disciplines.
