PS Eye Bank Donor Screener

Job Summary

The Eye Bank Donor Screener is responsible for receiving and inputting all donor referrals by telephone and e-mail; triage and assign referrals to appropriate parties; and communicate effectively with individuals/teams in the program to ensure high quality and timely expedition of outside agency requests.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:

Receiving and documenting all information for each potential donor referral in the Donor Connect referral database.
Interviewing referring hospital healthcare professionals to obtain brief information about the potential donor.
Managing large amounts of inbound and outbound calls in a timely manner.
Following communication "scripts" when handling different topics.
Assigning referrals to appropriate personnel. Follow-up required if assignment is not acknowledged within the specified time frames.
Verifying status of donor registry for each donor referral and inquiry for Utah and Idaho.
Communicating effectively with individuals/teams in the program to ensure high quality and timely expedition of outside agency requests.
Knowing and utilizing OSHA standards when handling tissue and disposable hazardous materials and participate in annual bloodborne pathogen training.
Maintaining compliance with Federal HIPAA regulations and complete annual HIPAA training as required by the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.
Maintaining excellent customer service relations with referring hospitals, OPO, and OME.
Participating in monthly staff meetings.
Completing annual Bridge/LMS training per University of Utah Health Academics policy.
Participating and complying with established Quality Assurance policies and assist with routine monitoring upon request.
Accomplishing special projects as assigned by the Eye Bank Communications Supervisor or Eye Bank Communications Manager.
Performing other duties as assigned.

Problem Solving
Incumbents in this position are expected to be familiar with the department's policies and procedures and have working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors. Incumbents are also expected to demonstrate sensitivity to others' needs while being understanding and helpful on the job.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Two years of related experience, ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks, expertise using MS Office software, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Database experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in a related field may be preferred.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences
Clerical support/data entry skills in medical or health related field.
Possess general medical knowledge and apply these skills in determination of donor referral eligibility.
Strong communication skills and excellent telephone etiquette
