Department Information

Within this setting, the new faculty hire will contribute to the Department in the area of pure mathematics, and support its mission to advance excellence in teaching, research, and service. Preference will be given to the applicants who best complement existing strengths in Algebra, Analysis, Geometry, or Number Theory. The Department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics, and plays a key role in interdisciplinary research across the College of Science and Mathematics. The successful candidate will help foster a vibrant research environment, mentor students, and contribute to ongoing curricular modernization initiatives.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor position requires excellence in teaching with a classroom instructional load as assigned by the Department Chair; mentoring graduate and undergraduate students; maintaining an active research program in pure mathematics that leads to publication in peer-reviewed journals; submitting regular applications for external funding; and providing service to the Department, college, and university at a level consistent with workload. The position is a tenure-track, academic-year (10-month) appointment.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in pure mathematics by August 1, 2026
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best-practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities appropriate to the discipline.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Postdoctoral experience at an accredited university or research institution.
  • Evidence of research excellence in an area of pure mathematics that complements or broadens the Department's current strengths.
  • Interest in mentoring undergraduate or graduate research and participating in interdisciplinary collaboration.


Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
