Position Announcement
The Psychology and Counseling Department at Utah Valley University (UVU) invites applications for three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Psychology to begin in Fall 2026. We are seeking colleagues whose teaching and scholarship will enrich one of the following areas:
- Social Psychology
- Cognitive Psychology

Faculty in our program work closely with motivated students - many of whom are the first in their families to attend college - to help them connect psychological science with real-world challenges.
Workload and Evaluation
Faculty workload expectations are 80% teaching, 10% scholarship, and 10% service. A standard teaching load is four courses per semester (4-4) with optional summer teaching. Research expectations are consistent with UVU's mission as a teaching- focused institution, emphasizing quality, mentorship, and professional standards rather than volume.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise, along with courses such as psychology as a science and profession (including scientific writing), research methods, or statistics as appropriate to departmental needs.
- Maintain an active program of scholarship suitable for a teaching-focused institution, with results disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, scholarly books, professional conferences, or equivalent professional outlets.
- Mentor undergraduates in research projects, especially community-engaged or applied projects.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
- Pursue ongoing growth as an educator through reflection, feedback, and professional development. Faculty are encouraged to engage with UVU's Office of Teaching and Learning.
- Maintain a regular on-campus presence. UVU does not permit ongoing remote work from outside the state.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution, completed by the start date of the appointment.
- Expertise in social psychology, cognitive psychology, or other fields in psychology.
- Demonstrated ability or clear potential to effectively teach specific courses from within the candidate's area of expertise and other courses according to current departmental needs.
- Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching
university. - Demonstrates respect for students and colleagues inside and outside of classroom
- Uphold ethical standards in teaching
- Must relocate to Utah if hired
- Teaching that is informed by pedagogical theory or professional development
- Ability to teach in multiple modalities, teach at an open enrollment institution
- Ability to teach key skills in psychology
- Teaching that is committed to student success and engagement
- Willingness to refine teaching
- Service experience
