Job Description:

The Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research at Brown University advances collaborative research and interdisciplinary teaching in feminist, gender, and sexuality studies across the University. Our annual Pembroke Seminar and its fellowship program bring together faculty, postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate fellows to pursue a set of shared critical questions and to explore work-in-progress in a dynamic intergenerational setting. We house an undergraduate concentration and graduate certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies. The Pembroke Center Archives identifies, collects, and processes collections that significantly enhance the capacity for research and teaching on women, gender, and feminist scholarship in the University library system. An array of initiatives and programming-lecture series, symposia, and workshops-complement the Pembroke Center's core research and teaching mission, creating a dynamic hub of critical inquiry and dialogue that draws faculty, students, alumnae/i, and members of the broader Providence community.

The Center Manager serves as the operations leader for the Center, overseeing and in many cases administering all activities related to finance, budget, facilities, human resources, academic programs, alumnae/i relations, and other administration. Reporting to the Center Director, this position is responsible for the logistical and operational support of research, fellowship programs, interdisciplinary academic programs, archival collections, and alumnae/i relations that advance critical feminist scholarship and plays a key role in creating spaces of community and welcoming fellows, visitors, and guests at the Pembroke Center.

The position manages a complex budget including high-level gift/grant/endowment administration. The Center Manager oversees the logistical planning and execution of a broad range of events from small working groups to high-profile lectures to multi-day symposia, in virtual, in-person, and hybrid modes. The Center Manager works closely with the Center Director to facilitate short and long-term strategic planning and the creation, articulation and implementation of new initiatives. Has oversight of Center finances and human resource functions including the management of all external and internal recruitment, selection, and hiring processes. The CM supervises the part-time Administrative Coordinator.
