Job Summary
The Reengagement Counselor serves as the primary recruiter and first point of contact for former Georgia Southern students who have stopped out without completing a degree. This role is critical in re-engaging nontraditional learners, supporting completion of readmission, and guiding students toward flexible degree pathways'including online and hybrid options. Using a relationship-centered model, the counselor builds trust and momentum with returning students by addressing barriers, facilitating warm handoffs to campus resources, and ensuring a seamless re-entry experience. This position advances Georgia Southern's mission of student success and degree completion by reconnecting students to educational opportunity and purpose.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary counselor for a defined caseload of former students, offering individualized support from initial outreach through re-enrollment
- Monitor student engagement and implement proactive yield efforts by engaging readmitted students through personalized follow-up, onboarding activities, and conversion tracking
- Conduct targeted outreach campaigns via phone, email, text, and virtual meetings to reconnect students with unfinished degrees
- Build formative relationships with returning students through frequent, personalized communication and active listening
- Host virtual and in-person information sessions focused on flexible program options, online pathways, and degree completion strategies
- Collaborate with marketing and enrollment teams and partners to develop messaging and outreach tailored to adult learners and nontraditional populations
- Guide students through the re-admission process, including application completion, transcript evaluation, and financial aid navigation
- Explain academic program options, placement requirements, and degree completion pathways in accessible, student-centered language
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student interactions, application status, and engagement in CRM and student information systems
- Identify and address common re-entry barriers such as work schedules, childcare, technology access, and financial literacy through proactive support and referrals
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Other Required Qualifications
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Required Experience
- Two (2) years of related experience in admissions, student services, sales, or community engagement
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience as an Admissions Counselor or in adult learner/student re-engagement support
- Familiarity with Technolutions Slate and Ellucian Banner
- Experience working with nontraditional, returning, or online student populations
Proposed Salary
$24.03 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
