Job Summary:

The CU College of Nursing has an opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Compliance Specialist. This position is responsible for student compliance with the College of Nursing compliance policy upon admission to academic programs. The compliance specialist will collaborate with Campus and University resources assigned to the State Authorization (i.e., SARA) and professional licensure to understand contributions necessary from the college of nursing for annual disclosures and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements Essential Function (50%)
  • Determine what College of Nursing information should be provided to university staff responsible for disclosures for state authorization and professional licensure on program compliance with regulations in states outside of Colorado.
  • Reviewing State Board of Nursing regulations on an annual basis and keep records of requirements of each state in the United States to understand and determine if our programs meet such requirements.
  • Update the SARA website with information that changes annually.
  • Maintain current knowledge on SARA, federal rules, state authorization, professional licensure, and decide if/when college leadership needs to be updated on items.
  • Attend training workshops and maintain a network of staff experts in SARA and state authorization across the country. Determine who to consult regarding best practices in the field and make recommendations to college leadership as to whether and where best practices/processes could be applied.
  • Decide on effective mediums to educate faculty on SARA, federal rules, state authorization, professional licensure, and how best to address questions.

Clinical Compliance Essential Function (45%)
  • Ensure all students admitted to all College of Nursing programs are fully compliant in ADB with immunizations, training, etc. Compliance should be complete before the first day of class.
  • Problem-solve student issues with compliance, including understanding certain exceptions to immunizations and documenting the exceptions, respond to student inquiries and questions related to compliance and compliance programs.
  • Communicate with students who are non-compliant and notify Assistant/Associate Deans and appropriate faculty.
  • Work with College leadership to update and re-establish compliance policy.
  • Understanding and management of all data systems, such as ADB (American DataBank) and internal CON databases, as they relate to student placement in the areas of compliance and tracking.
  • Updates and maintains related processes or database systems. Cross-train to understand multiple information systems and workflow processes used in OAP, including InPlace, CU-SIS, OnBase, TAMs, Formstack, Qualtrics, Intranet, Internet, and Zendesk.
  • Function as the liaison for tracking and maintaining student-specific immunization and certification information, including Background Verifications, Drug Screenings, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Medical Leave. Complete recurring audits for all students on a semester basis to ensure compliance related to immunization and certification information.
  • Tracks all aspects of clinical compliance for all undergraduate and graduate students within the College of Nursing, is well-versed in the specific clinical agency requirements, communicates these requirements to students, faculty, and outside agencies, and confirms and communicates whether or not students meet these requirements.
  • Sets compliance deadlines for all new and current students for all programs within the College of Nursing. Communicate deadlines and consequences of non-compliance clearly and concisely to all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Attend undergraduate faculty meetings, graduate faculty meetings, and specialty director meetings to communicate compliance updates and answer faculty questions related to clinical compliance.
  • For non-compliant students, communicate with those students and appropriate faculty, staff, and agencies regarding non-compliance. Determines level of compliance/non-compliance and communicates which students require subsequent action (i.e., student advisory note, dis-enrollment from course) to the appropriate faculty program leadership, as well as to CON Academic Programs.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of some days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Four years of experience in program administration, operations support, or another closely related field.
    • Substitution: Appropriate education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a health-related field.
  • Experience working in academic programs.
  • Experience working with student compliance.
  • Experience working with state authorization and professional licensure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of University of Colorado and College of Nursing policies and procedures.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $4,450 to $5,118 per month ($53,400 to $61,416 per year).
