Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is seeking a Special Venues Maintenance Lead to oversee the care, upkeep, and repair of some of the university's most high-profile facilities, including the UCCU Event Center, NUVI Basketball Center, UCCU Ballpark, and Lockhart Arena, with the possibility of additional venues as the campus expands. This role is critical to ensuring these spaces remain safe, functional, and well-maintained for students, staff, and community members who rely on them for academic, athletic, and special events.
As the lead for maintenance operations, you will not only manage day-to-day upkeep but also take ownership of special projects, coordinating with UVU staff, outside vendors, and contractors to deliver high-quality results. This position provides the opportunity to lead a team, guide and train employees, and work collaboratively across departments. Summary of Responsibilities
- Monitors and coordinates the maintenance and repair of all building electrical facilities and systems, and plumbing systems. Performs technical maintenance and repair tasks as appropriate.
- Monitors and determines the repair needs of the special venue buildings. Coordinates and guides work projects. Organizes and leads maintenance workers in providing work assignments and details. Collaborates with outside vendors and contractors, providing direction in job start and completion. Responsible for completing work. Confirms the work is being completed efficiently and correctly.
- Responsible for the repair of special venues, building walls, ceilings, windows, doors, furniture, fixtures, stairs, bleachers, and chairs. Replaces outlets, switches, lights, and lighting control systems components. Performs plumbing repairs.
- Works with events and sets up crews in each respective Special Venue to facilitate the necessary maintenance needs. Prepares and maintains records on all maintenance activities.
- Responds to after-hour calls. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
High school diploma plus 4 years of directly related experience to the summary of duties, OR any combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling 4 years is required. Requires an in-depth knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment, and materials used within the physical plant or central plant trade.
Preferred Qualifications:
Journeyman electrician license + 5 years of directly related experience is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, construction, and general maintenance type of work.
- Knowledge of trade tools and occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes and regulations pertaining to the trades is essential.
- Knowledge of preventive and repair maintenance.
- Knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation.
- Must possess strong leadership skills as they will at times be leading and directing the work of others.
- Skills in electrical maintenance work.
- Skills in calculating power, lighting loads for transformers, and conductors.
- Skills in troubleshooting safety and accurately using meters and diagrams.
- Skilled in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, framing, drywall, painting, masonry, etc..
- Ability to maintain a good relationship with the general public, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to make sound decisions pertaining to emergency repairs.
- Ability to give and instruct specific work details to other employees.
- Ability to make sound decisions and to train others.
- Ability to read, write, and understand oral and written instructions.
