Adjunct Non-Credit EMT Instructors in the Continuing Education Division are hired as part time instructors to provide instruction for EMT Basic courses on an as needed basis and based upon sufficient course enrollment. The EMT Instructor is responsible for preparing, delivering didactic, and laboratory education that parallels the MA Office of EMS and National Standards curriculum. They develop and deliver course content using high quality pedagogical techniques to ensure maximum student success and learning.
They also work with the Associate Dean of Emergency Medical Services and the Continuing Education Division team to ensure compliance with all regulatory and college administrative policies and practices.
Essential Job Functions:
The duties of the Adjunct Non-Credit EMT Instructor include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and revise instruction/curriculum as needed.
- Assess student progress, advise and support students as they pursue development of their academic and professional skills.
- Assist students with setting academic and professional goals.
- Monitor email communications from students and the college and respond in a timely manner, as appropriate.
- Ensure that classes meet for the allotted time on every scheduled meeting day during the semester.
- Provide timely and consistent feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate student records of attendance, participation, and grades.
- Meet all deadlines for grade submission to the Registrar's Office, student participation reports, and/or other administrative documentation as required.
- Works collaboratively with Division staff.
- Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
- Participate in required Human Resources and Information Technology Services trainings, new instructor orientations, and periodic check-in meetings with Division staff.
Job Requirements:
Skills/Experience/Training Required:
- Associate's degree
- Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in Emergency Medical Services
- Current MA, NREMT, EMT or Paramedic credential
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with adult students from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds in an instructional setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of EMS theory, practice, and trends
- Knowledge of current EMS curricular content and education standards
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation
- Ability to adapt EMS curricula to reflect State requirements, local needs, and national trends
- Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies
- Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills
- Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods
- Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback
- Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among students
- Knowledge of EMS educational program accreditation processes and standards
- Familiarity with learning management systems and other remote learning technology
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching style and materials to meet the individual needs of students
- Proven technological proficiency, which may include Microsoft Office 365 applications
Preferred:
- Master's degree in education or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in Emergency Medical Services
- Current certifications of HCP, ACLS, PALS, and ITLS/PHTLS Instructor
- Certification as an EMT or Paramedic Level I or II Instructor
- Demonstrated experience integrating technology into the teaching and learning processes, which may include providing blended, online, and distance learning opportunities for students
- Multi-lingual candidates fluent in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese, French Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole
- Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and role with a focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
- Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and technology skills
Additional Information:
Semester: Fall 2025 - first class starts on September 8; Spring and Summer 2026
Position Status: Part-time, non-benefitted; Adjunct instructors are hired on an as needed basis each semester.
Supervisor: Associate Dean, Community Education
Hours: Designated weekday evenings, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm or weekends; not to exceed 18 hours per week
Salary: $40.00/hour
Worksite: Brockton, Canton, or Middleborough campuses (in-person classes) or online (hybrid classes) as needed.
