Job Summary
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming many aspects of our daily lives, yet its full potential in medicine has not been achieved. Medical data-ranging from images and genetic information to electronic health records-is often complex and varied, creating challenges for developing and validating effective AI tools. At the University of Utah, we have a unique opportunity to harness world-class expertise in genomics, pathology, radiology, and engineering to develop cutting-edge AI technologies for patient care. One critical area in need of advancement is the integration of radiology images (such as MRI and CT scans) with pathology images, which are essential for diagnosing diseases and assessing treatment responses. This project aims to develop innovative tools that can predict patient outcomes across a wide range of diseases, including cancer and conditions related to aging. Specifically, this project will design models to develop biomarkers-particularly those related to blood vessels-to forecast clinical outcomes. This project will leverage unique datasets at the University of Utah or Huntsman Cancer Institute.
This work will not only foster new collaborations that will strengthen the University of Utah's research programs but also produce data that are needed to succeed in obtaining future grant funding. Most importantly, the AI computational biomarkers developed in this program will pave the way for improved patient care through more accurate predictions, allowing better and more precise personalized drug selections and treatment planning.
The post-doctoral scholar will be embedded in a multi-disciplinary research team that includes faculty in radiology, pathology and computer science. The University of Utah is building a new program in integrating radiology and pathology imaging for clinical outcomes predictions. This program provides strong mentorship for a pathway to independence and opportunities for career advancement. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in computer science or related field utilizing computer science methods, strong expertise in medical image processing, registration and analysis and a long-term interest to work in the health care sector.
