St. Catherine University is seeking a dynamic, action-oriented Controller to join our team. This
leadership role will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and be responsible for
directing and overseeing the University's business office teams (accounting, payroll and student
accounts.) The Controller plays a critical role in overseeing all aspects of our accounting operations,
including ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with
regulatory requirements, and streamlining and optimizing processes.
You will instill a mindset of ownership and accountability with all managers and team members,
providing a "playbook" for best practices - defining expectations to meet the vision and strategy for

The Controller will be on-campus full-time, with occasional flexibility for remote work
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, required
- CPA or CMA certification, preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 3+ years management experience
- Higher education or non-profit experience, preferred
- Knowledge of fund and gift accounting
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience building effective and respectful relationships across an organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Directs all aspects of accounting operations including policies, procedures and reconciliations as they relate to general ledger accounting, cash and investment management, internal controls, invoicing and accounts receivable, student accounts, accounts payable, fixed assets, long-term debt accounting, inventory and payroll.
- Direct all monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
- Ensure integrity of financial data to support accurate financial reporting to internal and external customers
- Oversee preparation of GAAP financial statements
- Support the business office team by answering questions, resolving problems, providing training and support, and overseeing work and projects
- Oversee all business office staffing including hiring, performance, ongoing training and organizational structure in collaboration with CFO
- Be knowledgeable in our financial information system to allow St. Kate's to fully leverage system capabilities
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Contribute to system implementations, automation, and process improvements
- Contribute to special projects and initiatives to improve processes and support team culture
- Act as a cross-functional business support resource to address planning and policy development and ensure timely follow-through on organizational needs
- Work with independent auditors to schedule and conduct the annual financial audit, 990 submission and other compliance audits
- Coordinate the preparation of internally prepared workpapers and schedules as requested by the auditors
- Reconcile bank and account activity and manage overall cash flow
- Administer insurance policy renewal and claims
