POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President of Student Success provides visionary, student-centered leadership for the Division of Student Success at the Community College of Aurora (CCA). As a member of the President's Executive Cabinet, this senior leader plays a pivotal role in advancing the college's mission and strategic goals by overseeing a comprehensive portfolio of student support services, including student leadership and civic engagement, career readiness, mental health and wellness, case management, food security, and student conduct. The Vice President of Student Success fosters a culture of equity, belonging, and continuous improvement, ensuring that all student success initiatives are grounded in data-driven practice and responsive to the diverse needs of CCA's student body. The role also includes oversight of major events such as Commencement and direct support for students through initiatives like the emergency funds and support services for special populations.
In alignment with CCA's commitment to educational access and student excellence, the Vice President of Student Success champions strategies that close equity gaps and promote retention, completion, and holistic student development. This role is responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with system-wide and federal policies related to student affairs, and serves as Deputy Title IX Coordinator for students. The Vice President represents the college in key system-level and community partnerships, and works collaboratively across departments to enhance the student experience. With a deep commitment to operational excellence, the Vice President of Student Success ensures responsible fiscal stewardship and seeks innovative funding opportunities that support student success and upward mobility.
OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students, 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students.
More than 20 different languages and 60 countries are represented at CCA. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative
- Oversee and manage the operations and functions of the Division of Student Success, including: Student leadership and civic engagement programming, career readiness services, student case management services, mental health & counseling services, basic needs and wellness initiatives, student emergency fund, parenting student services, and student conduct and complaint processes.
- Oversee Commencement event planning and oversight in coordination with the Dean of Student Success and Commencement Planning Committee.
- Serve as operations manager for campus food security and service initiatives
- Lead and collaborate on various student success projects and initiatives on behalf of the College President.
- Provide student-centered leadership that values belonging and respect, promotes equity, and supports campus-wide efforts to increase student retention, success, and completion.
- Promote positive student relations by maintaining effective lines of communication with students and serving as a strong advocate for the co-curricular needs of students.
- Provide guidance on divisional policies, procedures, services, and activities to create more equitable outcomes for students.
- Develop, manage, and ensure fiscally responsible annual budgeting for Division to ensure compliance of all applicable budget laws, policies, and guidelines.
- Support and acquire additional revenue-generating opportunities for the college in collaboration with the College President and Executive Leadership Team.
- Serve as a proxy to the President and perform additional duties as requested.
- Serve as a member of the executive cabinet which collaborates to implement the college's strategic plan, develop the college budget, and advise the president.
- Implement Division strategies and assist in the development and administration of short- and long-term student success goals in alignment with institutional strategic plan.
- Advise the President on all matters pertaining to Division and its impact.
- Structure the division working strategies to ensure optimal results and the advancement of the institutional mission.
- Establish and maintain a culture of data-driven practice, assessment and evaluation in relation to equitable student success practices within the Division.
- Apply both quantitative and qualitative methods with an equity lens to assess the division's impact on diverse populations and to close equity gaps.
- Implement of systems of accountability and assessment using data-driven metrics to measure progress towards Division-related goals.
- Develop increased systems of accountability within Division to improve performance excellence.
- Develop, review and monitor compliance with CCCS policies and System Chancellor's Procedures pertaining to student success.
- In matters involving Title IX related situations, serve as the Deputy Title IX coordinator for students in collaboration with the Title IX Coordinator in Human Resources.
- Serve as a member of the college's emergency planning committee to ensure the safety of students, employees, and visitors to CCA's campuses.
- Serve as the college's representative on the CCCS Vice President's Council and other committees, boards and councils as assigned.
- Ensure college website content is regularly updated and compliant with regulations.
- Attend and support Student Government Association and other student-led organization events and programs.
- Support positive relations for the college by becoming involved with community and civic organizations on behalf of the college.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in higher education, student affairs, counseling, public administration, or related field.
- Progressive leadership experience within student affairs, student services, or related area within higher education.
- Demonstrated experience developing and leading equity-focused student success initiatives using interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse populations.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating understanding of strategic planning, budget management, and extensive personnel supervision in a higher education setting. This includes crisis response and student conduct process experience.
- Experience and ability ensuring compliance with Title IX, ADA, FERPA, and other relevant regulations.
- Experience working in a Community College or similarly diverse, open-access institution.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency, especially in languages commonly spoken in the community (e.g., Spanish, Amharic, Vietnamese).
- Experience leading or supporting grant writing and fundraising efforts.
- Prior involvement in commencement planning and student engagement initiatives.
- Familiarity with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range is $145,000.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
