Job Description Summary

DEFINITION
Under general supervision of an assigned administrator, the Supervisor of the Student Success and Learning Resource Centers shall be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Student Success and Learning Resource Centers. The Supervisor collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure academic support for students and facilitates success strategies and services. The Supervisor will oversee the recruiting, hiring, and training of classified and short-term employees.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Student Success and Learning Resource Centers Supervisor is responsible for promoting academic skills, learning strategies, and library services necessary for student success in all disciplines. The Supervisor creates responsive, accessible and learner-centered spaces for students to attain independent learning and to achieve their personal, educational and vocational goals The Supervisor will assist in the development of new activities, and services that align with the college mission, vision, and institutional goals.

Incumbents in this position support Guided Pathways framework, student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by implementing activities that provide general and disproportionally impacted student populations access to educational opportunities and ensuring academic and support services are delivered across the district.

Serving all of San Luis Obispo County, Cuesta College has provided comprehensive associate degree offerings, certificates, and community programs to the region since 1964. The main campus is located along scenic Highway 1, west of San Luis Obispo and east of the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. Cuesta College has a North County Campus in Paso Robles, and South County Center, in Arroyo Grande.

Essential Functions & Qualifications


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide leadership and support for the Student Success and Learning Resource Centers for the District including regularly being on site at assigned District sites;
  • Lead the planning and organizing of daily operations and activities of the Student Success and Library Resource Centers;
  • Recruit hire, evaluate, supervise and provides direction and training to assigned staff. Develop and monitor schedules and organizes work, sets priorities and follows up to ensure completion;
  • Ensure an inclusive and welcoming learning environment in support of equity of student success;
  • Assist in planning and implementing departmental procedures, policies, and regulations;
  • Interpret and implement state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, District policies and accreditation requirements related to the operations of the Centers;
  • Maintain accurate records and data concerning academic and support services provided to students;
  • Plan and analyze the research and implementation of new tools and trends necessary to provide innovative instructional support techniques and strategies;
  • Assist in the development of budgets and annual planning (Annual and Comprehensive Program Plan and Review) for staffing, budget expenditures, facilities, equipment and supplies;
  • Assist in evaluating operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements, modifications and provide technical guidance; participate in the development and implementation of plans, goals, objectives and prepares various reports to support learning outcomes and Guided Pathways;
  • Provide student success information to students, staff, and the community;
  • Develop public information material for on and off campus dissemination, including web sites, brochures, fliers and scheduling calendars;
  • Develop and provide student success resources for students, staff and faculty, including online resources;
  • Collaborate and communicate with deans, divisional chairs, faculty, and librarians to promote student success activities;
  • Develop and deliver presentations to classes, divisions, committees and ad hoc groups regarding the Centers' services;
  • Participate in professional organizations, attend meetings and conferences and other activities to maintain currency in student learning support;
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in any discipline.

Experience:

Required
  • Two years experience working in an instructional setting.

Preferred
  • Two years related community college experience in student development or success, tutoring, academic lab, or learning resource supervision;
  • Understanding of technology as it relates to improving student learning;
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in developing and leading a team;
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.


Desirable
  • Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken).

Knowledge of:
  • Student-centered learning practices;
  • Student learning outcomes assessment;
  • Universal design theories for multiple learning styles and abilities;
  • Methods and techniques of organizing an instructional support program;
  • Training and supervising tutors;
  • Record keeping and report writing;
  • One or more academic disciplines;
  • Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
  • Correct usage of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary;
  • District policies and procedures.


Ability to:
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties;
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities;
  • Use databases and complex software;
  • Organize and monitor the work of others and manage project team activities;
  • Prepare concise and complete oral and written reports;
  • Understand and carry out complex instructions, both oral and written;
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relations.


Physical Ability to:
  • Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
  • Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
  • Lift and/or carry 25 pounds;
  • Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

SALARY SCHEDULE
Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's policies, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below.   • Salary Schedule Range: $6,800 - $8,266 per month.
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,800 - $7,497 per month.
