Assistant Professor of Instruction in Drawing

The Department of Art at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Instruction to commence Fall 2025. This position involves instructing introductory through advanced levels of undergraduate art drawing courses (ARTF 1302, 1304 and DRAW 2308, 2318, 3318, 3328, 3338, 4308, 4318, 4328).

The Department of Art is committed to rigorous creative scholarship and responsive pedagogy in its art concentration curriculums. The successful candidate will possess a robust understanding of contemporary studio drawing practices and theory in art and design which will be demonstrated by their submitted creative and educational portfolios. The department is largely a graphic design, art education and studio-driven (BA, BFA) program and seeks a qualified candidate to lead the drawing concentration. The successful candidate will illustrate evidence of supporting student's strengths while also encouraging them to reach their untapped potential.

Job Requirements:
  • MFA in a related studio required at time of hire.
  • Evidence of a high potential for academic scholarship
  • College teaching experience
  • Command of contemporary theory and pedagogical practices in art studio
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to work supportively with students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the maintenance and development of a professional learning community
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Significant instructional experience in art drawing curriculum
  • Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign a plus
  • Demonstrated undergraduate support and success beyond the classroom
  • Evidence of a high level of creative practice or community engagement and outreach
