Description
The San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the broad area of Cybersecurity and Privacy, with an expected start in August 2025. The Assistant Professor will be a member of the newly formed, interdisciplinary Cybersecurity Research and Education Center (CCRE; https://cyber.sdsu.edu), with an academic appointment in either the Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Science department.

CCRE has an ambitious vision to coalesce and grow the range of cybersecurity activities within SDSU as the university transitions to an accredited Carnegie R1 ("very high research activity") institution. The center's research is aligned with national and regional cybersecurity strategic priorities, including current emphasis areas in critical infrastructure protection, cyber-physical systems, network security and privacy, cybersecurity operations, and trustworthy and secure AI. The CCRE is part of a broader institute-wide strategy to foster innovative research, create new career pathways and contribute to cybersecurity workforce development, and address important interdisciplinary problems in the region (https://missionvalley.sdsu.edu/explore/innovation-district). The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule for Assistant Professors and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's discipline, qualifications and experience. Salary represents one component of a job offer that will also include a full benefits package, moving expenses, and start-up support. Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Information Science, or a closely related field. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the scholarship of the center, department and university through externally funded research and through teaching and mentoring of BS, MS, and PhD students, as well as participate in departmental governance and university service. Candidates are encouraged to elaborate on the interdisciplinary nature of their cybersecurity research and education, as well as how they can contribute to the CCRE's overall mission and vision.

We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy two or more of the eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (e) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or (h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.
