Job Summary:

The Wilson Laboratory within the Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking to fill the position of a Research Services Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional to provide direct professional support of laboratory-based research activities.

The mission of the Wilson Lab is to undertake basic and clinical translational research to understand microbe-host interactions and the mechanisms by which gut microbes and immune cells contribute to gut homeostasis and pathogenesis and contribute to chronic inflammatory processes in HIV and aging. The successful candidate will become a member of a productive research team and will be responsible for their own primary research projects under the direction of Dr. Wilson and senior team members, as well as assisting other laboratory personnel with their projects, as needed. This position is ideal for people who are looking for a few years of experience in preparation for graduate school. Dr. Wilson highly values mentoring and is dedicated to helping scientists achieve their independent goals.

The successful candidate will utilize a variety of laboratory techniques including processing of human gut tissue, stool and blood samples, cell culture experiments, flow cytometry, quantitation of protein markers by ELISAs and multiplex immunoassays, immunohistochemistry, viral and bacterial propagation. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, record-keeping abilities and attention to detail. The successful candidate should be able to clearly and effectively communicate with the research team, is expected to fully participate in laboratory meetings, and will be invited to participate at the paper writing level and be a co-author on publications, if interested.

This position requires work in Biosafety Level (BSL) 2+ and BSL3 facilities and will require development of proficiency in a biocontainment laboratory. Some flexibility in schedule should be expected depending on experiments and processing of tissue samples. If this occurs outside work hours, compensation time is provided.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects and perform experiments.
  • Tabulate, analyze and evaluate research, document, and communicate results.
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
  • Pick up and transport samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and disposal of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance by all laboratory personnel with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in biology, immunology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Experience in accurate pipetting, cell culture work and/or experience working with microbes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy and physiology.
  • Well-organized with considerable attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate reliability and initiative in the workplace.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $45,000 - $57,240.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
