Job Summary:
The Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a Research Services Laboratory Sciences Professional to perform molecular biology and mouse model experiments.
Projects involve virology and innate immunity to viruses. Viruses: HIV and other positive strand RNA viruses. Innate immunology: human and bat innate immunity (antiviral restriction factors, antiviral sensing, particularly dsRNA sensing by MDA5 and ADAR1). The hired RSP will perform standard molecular biology experiments that will include using plasmid DNA, constructing plasmids by cloning in E. coli, PCR, qPCR, working with RNA, doing qRT-PCR, western blotting, working with cultured cell lines. In some cases, viruses and gene-transducing single cycle retroviral/lentiviral vectors are used. Experience with mice and mouse colony management knowledge, or willingness to learn it, will be a valued asset for this position. Molecular biology experience as well. Computer skills in bioinformatics would be welcomed.
Classification as Entry, Intermediate, or Senior will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain mouse colony and perform mouse experiments. This includes mouse weaning, handling, and administration of treatments. Euthanasia of mice and collection/organization of samples.
- Utilize a variety of non-animal wet laboratory techniques required for research projects independently and cooperatively with other members of the lab.
- Can include but not limited to aseptic cell culture, viral and bacterial propagation, and experimentation, CRISPR editing of cells, and other molecular and cellular biology techniques.
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other lab members in designing and interpreting experiments. Tabulate and analyze research results. This includes organizing and presenting research findings to peers and the PI during weekly lab meetings.
- Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.
- Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
- Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Entry Level:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
Intermediate Level:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- One (1) year professional level research experience.
Senior Level:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- Two (2) years professional level research experience.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with mouse models, colony maintenance, mouse handling/experimentation, and/or mouse genotyping.
- One (1) or more years of experience in a basic/translational science wet bench laboratory focused on biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- Proven experience with experiment design, analysis, and result write ups.
- Experience with virology, molecular biology, and other cell biology methods including: CRISPR gene editing, lentiviral vector preparation, bacterial growth, transfection, and protein isolation/purification.
Conditions of Employment:
- Willingness to handle laboratory mice.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of basic animal management and experimentation.
- Knowledge of western blotting, plasmid cloning in E. Coli, cell culture, and virology methods.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
- Knowledge of Molecular biology, animal models, biochemistry, virology, immunology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Prism.
- Bioinformatics knowledge, e.g., with RNAseq.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
Entry Level: $45,000 - $57,240
Intermediate Level: $48,970 - $62,290
Senior Level: $52,941 - $67,341
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
