Job Summary:
The Prevention Specialist is a member of the CHIP Prevention Program. The CHIP Prevention Program provides HIV, Hepatitis C, and sexual health education, and outreach in partnership with over 20 community organizations across the state. We focus our interventions on those who are at the highest risk for acquiring HIV, including people of color, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men, people experiencing homelessness or incarceration, sex workers, and those who are dealing with behavioral health issues.
The CHIP Prevention Specialist is responsible for the implementation of primary prevention activities within rural southern Colorado. The Prevention Specialist actively engages with community partners to promote HIV education and prevention services and aligns activities to the CHIP Prevention Program strategic plan.
This position is grant-funded and currently has funding available through October 2026, the position will continue as long as funding allows. The position will require full-time availability.

Key Responsibilities:
- Implement rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling to priority populations at designated non-clinical testing sites within the community.
- Administer mental health, substance use, intimate partner violence, and PrEP screenings and provide appropriate referrals to testing session clients.
- Provide education about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), PrEP navigation services, and PrEP retention services.
- Support the development of HIV prevention and PrEP marketing campaigns for rural community members.
- Support distribution of rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing supplies for testing network partners.
- Collect, compile, and enter testing and education data into the database in a timely manner.
- Assist in the organization of testing, education, and outreach events.
Work Location:
Remote - this role is eligible to work remotely, but the employee must be in the United States.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Reside in a rural southern Colorado community
- One year of professional-level experience working in HIV/STI prevention or other community health programs.
- Diverse experiences and a person with lived experience
- Willingness to travel to various locations for assignments
- Bilingual (Spanish/English).
- 1 year working with diverse populations; including, LGBTQ+ community, communities of color, immigrant/refugee communities, etc.
- Experience working with individuals who use substances
- Experience with marketing using social media and web-based platforms
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Demonstrated experience in community organizing and/or community engagement.
- Ability to interact in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner with a diverse client population and a commitment to health equity.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, internet, and email.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $56,556 to $66,170.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
