Job Description Summary
DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Director of Workforce, Economic Development, and Community Programs, develop, administer and implement assigned components of the department's not-for-credit and fee-based education programs and services. Work with the community, businesses and District employees in administering and marketing a variety of programs such as but not limited to: Aquatics, including coordination of lifeguard staff, College for Kids, Community Education, Institute for Professional Development (IPD), Short-Term Vocational Training, and Online Courses.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Community Programs Coordinator position is distinguished by the requirement to oversee the administration, personnel, procedures and facilities related to the assigned areas of the Workforce, Economic Development and Community Programs Department. This position is assigned to all of the programs identified above under the Workforce, Economic Development and Community Programs department.
The position supports institutional effectiveness outcomes by assisting with services to increase the success of targeted groups of students.

Essential Functions & Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate with the director and act as lead providing oversight and direction to the day-to-day operation of the Community Education and Recreation programs and classes for adults and youth, career training programs, online classes, not-for-credit programs, recreational, aquatics, workshops, conferences, and special events;
- Oversee student registration process, monitor and collect attendance rosters, and review evaluations for not-for-credit classes to determine course continuation and/or modification;
- Administer the education, aquatics, and recreation programs, including curriculum design, teacher recruitment, review and evaluation of proposals, registration, customer service, pricing, room/facility assignments, and course/event logistics;
- Coordinate and ensure quality of lifeguard staff as required for all activities; enforce and explain rules and regulations in compliance with industry and American Red Cross standards; and ensure safety precautions are observed;
- Support and oversee job duties of the Aquatic Lead position;
- Lead the development and maintenance of Community Programs website content and design;
- Ensure quality control, including needs assessments, training and evaluation of program staff;
- Lead the marketing functions for the department, including market research and analysis, surveys, and evaluation;
- Oversee program finances and budgeting, including financial analysis;
- Complete annual program planning and review documents;
- Interview, recommend for hire, schedule, train, lead the work of part-time and seasonal staff to provide program activities and support functions;
- Develop informational and promotional presentations, materials, and speeches, including the department's brochure;
- Establish an advisory committee and hold regular meetings to ensure the needs of the community are met;
- Develop financial analysis and program effectiveness reports;
- Coordinate community activities with businesses, community organizations, and sponsors; and
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required
- Minimum high school graduate or equivalent.
Preferred
- Associate degree or equivalent, including or supplemented by Recreation, Education or Public Administration courses.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (oral and written).
Experience:
Required
- Three years of increasingly responsible experience planning, developing and overseeing recreation programs or educational services, including working with the community and supervising staff.
Knowledge of:
- Principles, practices, mission and objectives of public recreation or education programs and services;
- Health and safety principles and procedures for aquatic facilities management;
- Program development implementation and evaluation;
- Research and data organization methods and procedures;
- Marketing and public relations;
- Computer use and applicable software packages in the performance of registration, program development, evaluation, and management functions;
- Registration operations, preferably including automated system;
- Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
- Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
- District policies and procedures.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Physical ability to:
- Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
- Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
- Lift and/or carry 25 pounds; and
- Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
License and Certificates (current within the last year):
Required
- Appropriate program certifications such as but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor;
- Aquatic Facility Operator and/or Certified Facility Operator; and
- Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.

SALARY SCHEDULE
Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's policies, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below. - Salary Schedule Range: $5,576 - $6,778 per month.
- Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,576 - $6,148 per month.
