Position Description
Temporary Law Library Reference Librarian
SEATTLE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW
Hours per Week: 15 to 20
Seattle University School of Law Library has an exciting opportunity for a part-time appointment for a Temporary Law Library Reference Librarian to join our reference team. The appointment period would begin as soon as possible and end February 23, 2025. This position reports to the Associate Director.
Responsibilities: Provide research, reference assistance, and instruction to law students, law faculty, and other law library patrons. Create online research guides and collaborate on library special projects. Provide reference services via Zoom, email or in person. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- An ABA-accredited J.D. degree or equivalent is required.
- Requires proficiency with online legal research sources including Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg, and other legal databases.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse constituency of law students, law faculty, alumni, staff, and outside patrons.
- Able to use MS products including Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, and Excel.
- Strong service orientation is essential, as well as outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to learn emerging legal technologies and instruct students and faculty how to use such technologies.
Desirable Qualifications:
- An ALA-accredited MLS degree is preferred.
- Law library or other related educational work experience is preferred.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: 35-37 dollars an hour
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.
Hybrid Eligible
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
