The Psychological Health and Performance (PHP) Team at The University of Colorado (CU) Boulder encourages applications for the Licensed Athletic Clinician! The Athletic Clinician will assist the PHP Team in the delivery of general psychological services (evaluation, treatment and education) to student-athletes competing for a highly competitive, Division I athletics program. Additionally, the individual in this role will provide consultation and relevant training to coaches, athletic trainers, academic staff, other athletic department staff and student-athletes within the realm of psychological services and mental performance.
The Athletics Clinician will have demonstrated commitment, skills and experience in diversity and inclusion programming.
The successful candidate will be diligent, an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, and extensive experience working within an agency team. The ability to navigate complex systems while maintaining confidentiality and composure under pressure is vital in this role.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Clinical:
- Responsible for assessing and treating common psychological issues such as anxiety/depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, grief, sexual trauma, and personality disorders.
- Provide consulting and outreach services to coaches, athletic trainers, academic staff, and other administrative personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individual student-athletes and team members.
- Work closely in collaboration with team physicians regarding appropriate NCAA documentation as well as making medication recommendations for disorders/disabilities.
- Participate in student-athlete pre-performance physical examinations by introducing behavioral health and how to access services.
- Identify psychological and performance education outreach needs and offer relevant programming.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency services in situations involving individual student-athletes or teams within the athletic department.
- Provide consultation to administration and/or medical staff regarding crisis or treatment recommendations as appropriate.
- Medical staff consultation, interdisciplinary management, and treatment team participation as needed.
- Engage in required treatment consultation with community providers for student-athletes.
- Develop and implement individual performance optimization consultation sessions to individuals.
- Deliver team mental performance sessions, including developing and delivery of program specific to sport and their student-athletes.
- Provide coach consultation regarding mental health, team dynamics, and high-performance effective strategies for respective programs.
- Contribute to the development of an environment for team members and student-athletes that is healthy, safe, equitable, and culturally sensitive.
- Attend assigned team practices, competitions, team events, and travel as needed.
- Participate in special assignments and other committees as assigned to support the development of best practices and high-performance programs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with organizational units that can assist and/or enhance the mental health services.
- Medical documentation and record keeping.
- Participate in continuing education and professional association activities related to the performance of job functions and the maintenance of skills.
- Participate in professional organizations and activities, workshops, and seminars, and develop programs related to expertise.
- Represent the University of Colorado Boulder and the CU Department of Athletics at University, State, Regional, National, and international conferences and/or meetings, as assigned.
- Understand and follow state statutes governing the ethical provision of psychological care, as well as those rules governing the Athletic Department, the Athletic Conference, and the NCAA.
- Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of and remain current on the rules and regulations of the NCAA and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) regarding banned drugs and restricted substances, particularly NCAA by-law 16.5.2. (g) & (h).
- Adhere to the APA Code of Ethics and statutes of the State of Colorado.
- Adhere to principles stated in the Athletic Department's Mission Statement and promote loyalty to the mission by all staff and student-athletes under their supervision.
What We Can Offer
- Starting salary range is $80,000 - $90,000.

What We Require
- Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.
- Licensed as a counselor or social worker, OR license-eligible and ability to obtain license in the State of Colorado within six (6) months of employment.
- One year of clinical experience, post-licensure.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
- Excellent clinical skills using evidence-based or evidence-informed practices.
- Multicultural experience and humility, and experience in trauma-focused therapeutic approaches, and trauma-informed care.
- Experience in delivering workshops/trainings on topics related to mental health and/or mental performance.
- Demonstrated dedication to social justice and inclusivity in a multicultural learning environment.
- Proven ability to provide treatment and/or consultation that spans the spectrum of care for student-athletes ranging from debilitating emotional distress to optimization of performance.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively, respectfully and appropriately with diverse populations in the Department, University and the community.
