Job Summary

The Department of Communication in the College of Media, Communication, and Information (CMCI) at the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder invites applications for a non-tenure-track position as an assistant teaching professor. The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching excellence across department course offerings, preferably in the area of rhetoric and technology.
The position is 75% teaching and 25% service and involves a 3-3 teaching load. The Department also regularly offers opportunities for summer teaching appointments, which function separately from, and as optional additions to, the 9-month contract.
Classes you may be expected to teach include, but are not limited to, Craft of Argument, Rhetorical Research Methods, Communication, Technology, and Society, Persuasion in Society, Advanced Topics in Storytelling, Culture, & Climate Justice, Public Speaking, and Political Communication. In addition to helping deliver the courses outlined above, teaching faculty have opportunities to teach courses within our curriculum related to their area of expertise.
Service needs within the department may involve helping to develop a senior capstone experience program, supporting the Josephine Jones Speaking Lab, student clubs, and/or other forms of learning outside of the classroom, and facilitating the development of high-impact learning (HIP) experiences within designated courses within the current curriculum. The role requires demonstrated experience with inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a diverse range of undergraduate students.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Additionally, CMCI is focused on providing high-impact learning experiences for students.
Both the Department and CMCI strive to be communities whose excellence is premised on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Department in particular has made a commitment to developing an actively anti-racist climate. We seek candidates whose past work experiences, teaching, research, or service activities demonstrate their work towards an inclusive environment or an understanding of the experiences of those historically underrepresented in higher education. We encourage applications from all candidates including those who have knowledge, skills, and abilities working with and among historically minoritized communities such as those within minoritized racial and ethnic communities, ciswomen, non-normative genders and sexualities, persons with disabilities, and others who have encountered legacies of marginalization.
