What We're Looking For

This position specifically supports the mission of the University by providing strategic and comprehensive leadership for all campus-wide security functions. This role unifies efforts to develop an integrated approach to safety and security by improving efficacy and consistency in protocols, procedures, and reporting.

A bachelor's degree and five years of work experience are required. A master's degree and ten years of work experience are preferred.

Additional skills, knowledge or qualifications include:
  • Extensive organizational leadership and law enforcement experience, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Ability to implement best practices in a complex organization.
  • Change management leadership experience.
  • Capacity to effect cultural and operational change in a decentralized structure.
  • Ability to lead a department and promote shared understanding among diverse functional units.

Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.

What You Will Do
  • Develop, administer, and maintain a comprehensive institutional safety and security strategy which supports students, faculty, staff, and constituents in conjunction with applicable offices.
  • Oversee the university's public safety and security activities and programs on campus and within the greater community.
  • Provide oversight on the assessment and management of campus transportation and parking needs by ensuring appropriate policies and plans are in place.
  • Work closely with Environment Health and Safety to identify comprehensive protocols which sustain existing safety programs and develop new procedures as necessary to ensure ongoing safety.
  • Evaluate current and future university protocol by staying aware of pending and final legislative changes which may affect university safety and security provisions.
  • Serve as the University representative and maintain positive relationships with external law enforcement agencies, media outlets, Board of Regents, and other external entities on public safety and emergency response.
  • Oversee continued development of all aspects of the university's emergency response and continuity program which includes establishing key responsibilities to the appropriate positions at the university.
  • Analyze crime trends and incident reports to ensure utilizations of manpower offset trends and effectively address concerns.
  • Oversee university police department management of resources to assess effective service and ensure efficient coverage.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission.
  • Ability to comply with University policies.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
