Position Information

Hiring Department: UTEP InSPIRE

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $49,500 annually

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Under general supervision and with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, performs graphic design and consultation work, particularly as it interfaces with instructional technologies and pedagogies. Designs and produces departmental art and copy layouts for material to be presented through various print and digital media.

Essential Functions

Provides frontline customer service and support for instructional technologies and multimedia within area of expertise/experience.

Leads student teams of developers to create multimedia content that bridges the gap between online/mobile technologies and classroom settings.

Designs instructional technologies and/or multimedia for standalone or instructor-led classrooms.

Adapts instructional technologies and/or multimedia for different levels or types of learners and educators.

Observes and provides feedback on instructional techniques, presentation methods, and instructional technologies.

Presents and makes recommendations regarding course design, multimedia, and instructional strategies.

Performs Graphic Designer duties such as studies illustrations, photographs, and text to plan presentation of material, product, or service; determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, selects style and size of type, and creates sample layouts; prepares cost estimates for projects within quality specifications, financial constraints, and time schedule; presents samples to supervisor or client for selection and approval; creates finished layout, or prepares instructions for workers who assemble and prepare final layouts; reviews final layout and suggests improvements as needed, and presents final layout to supervisor or client for approval; prepares final layout for print on paper, film, disk, or other electronic format; checks proofs; reviews quality of final product before release to client; designs, maintains, and updates websites; assists in advertising strategies for the unit.

Assists the UTEP InSPIRE staff in conceiving and executing graphics design projects and designing, laying out, illustrating, and producing graphics communications materials using computer hardware and software and traditional graphics methods.

Serves as a liaison with printers, contractors, and suppliers on media projects and the procurement of materials and supplies.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies, and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility;

and

Experience: Two years of experience, related to the statement of responsibilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; familiarity with university learning management systems (LMS), particularly Blackboard; documented experience developing graphic design content for use across a diversity of academic and professional environments (e.g., familiarity with graphic design principles, as applied to the development of course content and/or instructor professional development materials designed for synchronous and asynchronous delivery); documented experience using relevant educational technologies, graphic design interfaces, and supporting technologies (e.g., Adobe, AI, Yuja, Teams); documented experience creating graphics content for the web.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the above required qualifications, the successful applicant will ideally also have prior experience working in postsecondary contexts, either individually and/or as part of a team; be familiar with interactive online course and web design tools such as SoftChalk and Articulate; and possess at least one year of supervisory or administrative experience overseeing staff and/or students operating in a technology-centered unit.
