THE DEPARTMENT

Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) serves as the lead organization for planning, developing, and maintaining the campus natural and built environments in support of the university's mission. The department seeks to preserve and enhance CPP's history, aesthetics, physical assets, and natural ecosystems through coordinated planning, design, and construction of buildings, roads, infrastructure, landscaping and other physical improvements. As an advocate on behalf of the university and its auxiliaries, FPM strives to provide facilities that meet scope, budget, operational needs and functional requirements. FPM is comprised of approximately 200 facilities professionals (FTE) that also provides maintenance services including custodial services, landscaping, recycling, building and mechanical trades, energy and utility management, fleet and auto services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for a variety of miscellaneous maintenance and repair work at the skilled and semi-skilled level:
    • Set up and finish jobs and perform manual labor preparation
    • Hand excavate for utilities, trench and form for concrete work, and make minor asphalt repairs.
    • Assist in facilities renovations and new construction; participate in construction site/remodel tear down and set up.
    • Move furniture, equipment and heavy objects. Install earthquake safety preparation anchor fixtures.
    • Install bulletin boards, black and white boards, name plates, and other items. Assemble and make minor repairs to furniture.
    • Assist in tearing down and relocation of furniture, appliances and equipment.
    • Make simple interior and exterior repairs.
    • Lay carpet and floor tile, make standard carpet repairs; perform related facilities and systems support functions.
    • Install and repair fencing.
    • Install ceiling tiles, add drywall, repair drywall and hang doors.
    • Respond to service calls.
    • Perform preventive maintenance.
    • Assist in preventative maintenance and routine minor maintenance for electrical apparatus, pulling wires, changing fixtures.
  • May be assigned work with other crafts workers/co-workers in various shops.
  • Assist with plumbing, HVAC, electrical and other repairs, maintenance and projects; for example:
    • Assist with changing HVAC filters, replacing and re-lamping lighting fixtures and ballasts, and painting buildings.
    • Weld, drive and operate tractors, bobcats, forklifts, and other related equipment pertaining to the position.
  • Move loaded materials, barrels, bags, boxes, and other containers.
  • Load and unload material into and out of the truck, utilization of lift gate.
  • Report work orders as needed to Customer Service.
  • Make reports of safety concerns and equipment repair needs.
  • Maintain and wear appropriate personal protective equipment as needed. Maintain vehicles and moving equipment.
  • Operate forklift, demonstrating strict knowledge of and adherence to established safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Maintain records of work completed and problems encountered on work orders.
  • Prepare simple reports, have good communication skills; must be able to drive state vehicles.
  • Perform event set-up and removal for Commencement and other special events.
  • May assist in grounds/maintenance operations.
  • Assist in recycling projects and clean-ups, and other related duties as required and instructed.
  • Assist in flood control by setting up barricades, providing sandbags, and other related duties as required and instructed.
  • Clean pools, fountains and storm drains.
  • Place signs, street signs and banners.
  • Perform vehicle inspections.
  • Clean up liquid spills.
  • Clean equipment rooms.
  • Remove hazardous materials.
  • May be required to wear a respirator.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • In addition to the experience required of the Facilities Worker I, the abilities of the Facilities Worker II normally would be acquired through any combination of experience and training equivalent to three (3) years of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties.
  • In addition to knowledge required of the Facilities Worker I, the Facilities Worker II must possess a more comprehensive knowledge of specific methods, practices and tools related to facilities and systems maintenance and repair in areas such as:
      • Plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting and mechanical systems
      • Semi-skilled and basic skilled knowledge across multiple trades
      • General knowledge of applicable trade safety practices
      • Working knowledge of building codes
      • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and mechanical principles.
  • In addition to the abilities required of the Facilities Worker I, the Facilities Worker II must demonstrate semi-skilled and basic trade proficiency in multiple trade and maintenance tasks.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Operate bobcat, backhoe, forklift, and scissor lifts
  • Experience in welding, MIG, TIG, Arch and gas and soldering.
  • Carpenter skills, painting skills, plumbing repair skills, ability to change HVAC filters, and ability to replace and re-lamp lighting fixates and ballasts.

CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the Teamsters bargaining unit 6. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website.The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $4,547 and maximum $6,859 per month. Please refer to the anticipated hiring range for the appropriate salary rate for this particular position.
