Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Vice Dean/CFO for Penn Dental Medicine (PDM) and in close collaboration with the Director of Research Services and the Senior Director of Budget and Analysis, this position is responsible for supporting and facilitating decision-making in key areas of financial management and strategic planning. The Director of Fiscal Operations will have overall managerial responsibility and ownership of Research Services, ensuring the effective administration and growth of its portfolio of grants and research funds. This position will conduct objective analysis of the financial performance of certain departments and centers within Penn Dental Medicine and will develop an in-depth understanding of the business and financial structure. The role involves conducting financial and operational analysis to support planning efforts that span a wide range of initiatives, analyzing data from various systems to produce regular and ad hoc financial reports, and providing staff mentoring and training for finance and business professionals.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Facilitates decision-making in key areas of financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning; liaison to PDM Administration, budget and research services, and representing PDM at various University councils/committees. - 20%
  • Exercise sound stewardship of financial resources to ensure compliance with related policies and procedures, including PDM, University, federal, and any other regulations; and provide leadership, professional development, and supervision of direct reports. - 20%
  • Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for all financial research service functions, encompassing financial information and reporting, financial planning and analytics, post-award grant accounting, management of available cash (Unrestricted, Endowments, Gifts), and development of Multi-Year projections. - 20%
  • Lead and coordinate grant writing initiatives, including strategic planning, program design, budget development, and evaluation of grant-funded projects at PDM. In support of Director of Research Services, develop, implement, and refine processes and procedures for grant management and proposal development, ensuring collaboration with PDM Research. - 15%
  • Plan and develop with appropriate administrators the strategic long-term financial plan and policies for the school, including managing the finances of the school's clinical practices. Conduct financial and operational analysis to support planning efforts that span a wide range of initiatives. - 10%
  • Analyze the consolidated budget, capital plans, multi-year financial plans, etc.; monitor current year budget to actual results. May manage the annual fiscal budget process. Analyze data from various systems to produce regular and ad hoc financial reports. - 10%
  • Other duties as assigned. - 5%


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and +10 years of progressively increasing responsibility in academic business or financial administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Graduate degree in financial field valued and preferred. Portfolio of interesting and related forecasting and budgeting experience required. Established track record as collaborator in the workplace, within the immediate department and within a larger institution. Experience representing a sophisticated organization in a variety of public and internal forums.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
