The successful applicant will contribute to the university's mission primarily through research by serving as a research faculty member in our new IOHI. This position is specifically assigned for this research faculty to work in the Nutrigenomics, Inflammation & Obesity Research (NIOR) laboratory, directed by Dr. Naima Moustaid-Moussa


Major/Essential Functions
This is primarily a research lab-based position. Conducting animal (mice) experiments, conducting genomic and microbiome studies; data analyses and manuscript writing , grant writing, and reporting, conducting cell culture studies and biochemical assays, presenting at conferences and assisting the lab PI (Moustaid-Moussa) with; co-mentoring students and lab management and oversight.

At Texas Tech University, the Research Professor title designates an individual appointed, usually full time, to a research position. In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in the area of research.



Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate such as PhD, in nutrition, biochemistry, biomedical sciences or related disciplines.
  • Experience with animal (rodents) and cell research and ability to develop new research/experimental protocols.
  • Experience and/or publications using omics applications, especially microbiome research
  • Demonstrated ability (commensurate with current position title) to secure extramural research grants and to engage in externally funded collaborative research projects across the college and university.


Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Postdoctoral training or equivalent research experience
  • Training in microbiome research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Research experience in cardiometabolic diseases, breast cancer, or brain health and age-related diseases, epigenetics, omics, metabolism, and/or related areas.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.
  • Evidence for training/mentoring students.
  • Experience with grant writing and/or competitive extramural research funding.
  • Ability to interact successfully and work harmoniously with colleagues and students in a diverse community as evidenced by audience composition in presentations and coauthored in publications and collaborations.
