Under the guidance of the Director, Student Basic Needs, the Lancer Care Support Specialist is responsible for providing services to all Lancers, who are currently experiencing homelessness, housing displaced, or other basic needs insecurity. The Lancer Care Support Specialist's primary responsibility is to support students in accessing, identifying, and connecting Lancers to temporary and permanent housing solutions, community partners through referral, and other basic needs supports as appropriate. Additionally, the Lancer Care Support Specialist will assist in department event and program planning and assist with Lancer Care program processes.



EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  1. Provides counseling and referrals to campus/community support resources; collaborates in program planning with other staff and projects; assists Director with assessment and evaluation of the program.
  2. Manage the collection and maintenance of applications and relevant documentation for the Lancer Care Basic Needs Grant. Analyze financial data, family circumstances, academic status, and emergency situations to assess eligibility under federal, state, city, college, and external agency regulations. Provide guidance to applicants on supplementary documentation required to determine eligibility and compose correspondence to direct the awarding process and notify applicants of grant outcomes in a timely manner.
  3. Closely monitors and communicates consistently with Lancer Care program participants. communication will be primarily via face-to-face interactions and virtually through zoom, but also will occasionally occur via phone, email, texting and Internet as necessary.
  4. Plans and anticipates monthly tasks related to case management, intakes, and follow-ups; ensures program services are being provided in a timely and professional manner; case management notes are being entered in a database; student needs are being assessed regularly to ensure relevant services are being provided.
  5. Develops a referral network to provide resources for Lancers in need of emergency housing and other Lancer Care Supports. These referral agencies may include; community and transitional housing programs; mental health care supports; legal assistance and other supportive services.
  6. Maintains detailed student contact logs in the database; and effective, up-to-date, case notes.
  7. Develops and maintains complex or sensitive relationships with external organizations critical to the program's success.
  8. Participates in the hiring and training of new Lancer Care student workers and interns, as needed.
  9. Leads and/or attends regular liaison meetings and training sessions, program seminars, workshops and other presentations.
  10. Collaborates with Lancer Pantry Coordinator, and other Staff, Faculty, and departments to develop supplemental projects.
  11. Acts as an informed referral source throughout the academic year, including supporting students in connecting with service providers.
  12. Participates in the overall evaluation of program services by assisting with data collection and maintaining accurate information in program participant files.
  13. Supports the activities of the Lancer Basic Needs Program as needed, and other duties as assigned.





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree in a relevant major, such as psychology, counseling, sociology or social work.
  • Two years of experience working with basic needs, social services, counseling, coaching, case management.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant major, such as psychology, counseling, sociology or social work.

  • Knowledge of case management practices, including intake, follow-up, and assessment of student needs.
  • Understanding of counseling techniques and referral processes to campus and community support resources.
  • Familiarity with building and maintaining referral networks, including community housing, mental health services, and legal assistance.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, city, college, and external agency regulations relevant to determining student eligibility for services and grants.
  • Awareness of program evaluation techniques, including data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to plan and anticipate monthly tasks related to case management, ensuring timely and professional service delivery.
  • Skill in analyzing financial data, family circumstances, academic status, and crisis situations to determine student eligibility for grants.
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining relationships with external organizations critical to program success.
  • Competence in composing correspondence to communicate grant application outcomes and guide the awarding process.
  • Skill in leading and participating in meetings, training sessions, and program seminars.
  • Ability to monitor and communicate effectively with program participants across multiple platforms, including face-to-face, virtual, phone, email, and text.
  • Ability to maintain detailed and up-to-date case notes and student contact logs in the database.
