About the Department:

At the Hart Center, we pair an elite technical education with exceptional leadership and professional development skills to produce world-changing engineer leaders. About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Program Manager leads outreach efforts and promotes programs and the work of the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership. The role also manages marketing and public relations for the center and programs.
The role is responsible for the planning and execution of programs and events. The role is also expected to attend industry trades nationwide (and internationally) co-sponsored by the Center.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads outreach efforts for the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership. Promotes programs and work of the Hart Center to interested industry leaders, and students, including the leadership certificate program and professional development programs (e.g. Leadership @ the Top Lecture Series). Works with engineering departments to manage marketing, project planning, execution and outreach of SMU Lyle Professional Development Programs and events. Uses Sales Navigator (CRM) to facilitate outreach to private industry and external audiences. Responsible for expanding the network of clients. Administers and promotes leadership program (e.g. Online EQ assessment, leadership workshop and coaching sessions) for all incoming students and student leaders. Assists students prepare their leadership development plan. Assists the Executive Director in securing speakers and planning, and for the Hart Center monthly talks.

  • Manages marketing and public relations efforts for the center and programs, collaborating with the internal marketing team SMU-Lyle Marketing and Communications and other off campus organizations. Manages social media presence and promotion of events. Designs and writes content for promotional materials, including correspondence, program brochures, flyers, posters, and mailers.

  • Oversees budget for programs. Assists with vendor management. Maintains and updates contact lists. Updates event calendars. Coordinates mailings. Responsible for all the event logistics (e.g. room reservations, catering, A/V) related to hosting professional development programs. Prepares materials for professional development programs. Handles guest relationships for Center events. Creates and maintains a program inventory document that details individual classes and certificates.

  • Attends industry and trade conferences, workshops, and symposiums co-sponsored by the Center at other universities or institutions or industry trades nationwide (and internationally). Host receptions and gatherings at conferences. The Center sponsors one annual symposium with an outside institutional partner, resulting in a book published by an academic press. Works with the industry and academic subject matter experts to execute the vision, organizing the annual book, usually over about a 1-year period, until the book is published.

  • Occasional evening/weekend hours will be required for lectures and post-event dinners.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required. A degree in Marketing, Business or closely related field is preferred.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience is required, five (5) years is preferred. Experience working in event and budget planning, networking and creating/writing/editing content for newsletter, website and promotional materials is required. Experience working with industry and university platforms is also required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must have strong working knowledge of the academy, high-tech industry professional development needs and the academic publishing world.

Candidate must be proficient in LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Indesign and Adobe Illustrator.
