Job Description:
The Director of Health and Wellness will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive wellness programs that promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of faculty and staff, fostering a culture of health, wellness, engagement, and inclusivity across the university. Initiatives that have the potential to produce cost savings to the University's health care benefits or improve employee productivity are an emphasis of the wellness program. This role collaborates with university leaders, supervisors, internal HR professionals, and external constituents to foster a supportive and healthy work environment for all. Collaborations include Human Resources Benefits, Enrollment & Student Experience, and the Lerner Center for Public and Health Promotion to ensure that health-focused programming is integrated across the University framework to optimize programming, promote consistent messaging, and enhance the overall well-being of faculty and staff. The Director of Health and Wellness serves as an advocate for employee health and wellness at all levels of the organization, facilitating wellness best practices and encouraging healthy behaviors.

Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement a university-wide strategy that aligns wellness plans and programming with the University's strategic priorities and the Office of Human Resources department goals.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, and supervisors to integrate wellness initiatives into organizational policies and practices.
  • Identify key areas for improvement and lead initiatives to enhance employee health and well-being.



Program Planning and Development:
  • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive wellness programs, services, and initiatives, using available health claims data to analyze the characteristics of the population to guide program development and expansion as well as to serve as markers for subsequent study of impact.
  • Primary focus is on developing and delivering wellness-related educational programs including mental health support, health promotion activities, fitness programs, stress management and work-life balance initiatives, nutrition and preventive health measures via workshops, and training sessions that empower employees to make behavioral changes by increasing knowledge and skills to improve their well-being.

Budget Management:
  • Plan and manage the budget for Wellness initiatives and ensure effective allocation of resources.
  • Research grant funding opportunities and prepare grant applications for outside funding to support wellness programs.
  • Prepare annual reports and budget recommendations for continued programming.

Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, senior management, and department leaders, to ensure alignment of wellness programs with overall university strategy, and ensure seamless execution of events, workshops, and campaigns to promote healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices that meet the diverse needs of our university community.
  • Build strong partnerships and engage stakeholders to support wellness initiatives and champion a culture of health.
  • Evaluate, recommend, implement, and coordinate campus-wide programs in consultation with human resources benefits leadership and the University's health insurance third-party administrator.
  • Cultivate and effectively manage relationships with other health program providers on and off campus.

Employee Engagement:
  • Create and implement communication plans to promote wellness programs and encourage employee participation; as well as foster a culture of wellness through engagement strategies, encouraging employee participation, feedback, and the adoption of healthy behavior.
  • Manage wellness information platforms, such as web portal and/or website which supports engagement efforts, information exchange, and activities registration.
