Job Description:

Madison College is hiring a Dining Services General Manager! Madison College's Dining Services serve students at the Truax and Goodman South campuses in Madison. The Dining Services operation generates revenue of approximately $2 million per year and over 300,000+ transactions. Maintains high-quality and consistent service to our customers (students, faculty, and staff).

Under the direction of the Auxiliary Services Director, the Dining Services General Manger collaborates with the Back of House (BOH) and Front of House (FOH) Supervisors to provide leadership, logistical management, and financial oversight for Madison College's self-operated dining services program.

The Dining Services General Manager assists the Auxiliary Services Director with administrative and operational support, while also managing and developing menus and production schedules for the Truax Atrium Cafe, Health Cafe, and other dining venues. A key responsibility includes supporting staff through professional development and training in food production techniques and practices.

Additionally, the Dining Services General Manager works to build strong relationships within the college to promote potential growth for the department. Both the BOH and FOH Supervisors report to the General Manager.

This is a full time, 52-weeks per year position with flexible working hours between Monday - Friday 6:30am - 5:00pm

Essential Responsibilities:

Management:
  • Works with both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) Supervisors, ensuring smooth functionality across all dining areas. Responsible for managing profit and loss for Dining Services by overseeing incoming revenue and outgoing expenditures to determine operating income. The manager monitors costs related to ordering, inventory, and labor to ensure financial targets are met. Conducts and manage annual inventories to support purchasing and budgetary decisions, prepare data to assess financial performance, and makes use of corrective actions as necessary to ensure that financial goals and operational cost are met. Additionally, prepares budget updates for monthly enterprise meetings, assists with internal audits, and completes required records and reports, including those for inventory control and personnel. Ordering and receiving materials and supplies are done in compliance with college policy.


Accountability:
  • Responsible for ensuring the financial efficiency of Dining Services, working closely with the Front of House Supervisor to oversee all cash accounting practices at Madison College. Involving receiving, distributing, and enforcing departmental cash procedures while developing and implementing cash handling procedures in accordance with College standards. Establishing and maintaining relationships with the bank and overseeing all banking processes. Additionally, running and analyzing Point of Sale (POS) system sales and financial reports to aid in operational planning.


Development and Execution:
  • Developing and executing the strategic direction of Dining Services. Maintains team focus on shared goals, organizational excellence, and accountability for achieving successful outcomes. Develop and establish plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines to establish clear and shared expectations. Evaluates the effectiveness of services and provides recommendations to drive institutional change.

Planning:
  • Plan, develop, and implement new ideas designed to meet customers' changing needs. Lead the customer service practices of the department to ensure customers have a pleasurable dining experience. Establish a customer service model which establishes proactive strategies to maintain good customer service.


Collaboration:
  • Partner with facilities and risk management to ensure areas are in compliance with all state, county, city, and college safety protocols. Maintain high safety and sanitation standards as it applies to the handling of food, beverages, work areas, equipment, and self-service equipment.
  • Notify staff of any changes to procedures and processes for safety of the facility. Collaborate with health inspector during all sanitation inspections in areas under supervision.
  • Work with vendors and associations to learn about market trends and determine appropriate implementation at Madison College. Routinely meet with students to understand their interests and incorporate that learning into the operations. Participate in activities of relevant professional associations.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.


Knowledge, skills & Abilities:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Skills in budget management including annual planning, capital purchases, food and labor.
  • Financial planning and cash handling experience.
  • Facilities awareness including operational purchases, troubleshooting equipment failures, recommending repairs, scheduled maintenance and remodeling needs.
  • Experience leading high volume fast-paced work environment, including multiple production schedules, and staff management. Critical thinking abilities to include corrective action for inconsistencies in work, resolve conflicts in a timely manner and situational management to achieve greater success. Develop practices for implementation of new processes.
  • In accordance with College management procedures, demonstrate organization, time management, resource management skills. Professionally reporting problematic staff issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Strong leadership skills. Supervisory experience with waitstaff, cashiering, cooking experience, understanding of food principles, menu development, food safety, customer service relations, short and long term operational and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and social media platforms, Labeling platforms and general knowledge of kitchen equipment.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate degree or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Five (5) years of progressive work experience required to successfully perform this position.
  • Wisconsin Serv Safe Certificate or the ability to obtain it in first 30 days of hire.
