The Environ. Services - Admin Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time Safety & Compliance Program Coordinator position. This position manages a program of inspections, training, and consultation in a particular safety specialty to ensure that research projects and/or campus facilities comply with applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures. They will manage the University's Hazardous Waste Program in compliance with all applicable federal and municipal environmental regulations.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Responds to property and liability losses including worker's compensation, initiating investigations, and assists in accomplishing the appropriate resolution of all claims.
  • Provides innovative and strategic leadership for programs and functions designed to support the environmental, health, and safety of the University community.
  • Provides leadership as the Chair of the Safety Committee.
  • Responsible for all OSHA reporting.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and programs necessary to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations as well as health and safety issues.
  • Interacts with faculty and staff to coordinate and oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous wastes and materials
  • Engages and supervises hazardous waste contractors and other contractors necessary to maintain compliance with environmental laws.
  • Maintains all required environmental records, prepares and submits all required environmental reports.
  • Facilitates and oversees the implementation of the Environmental Management Plan at all university locations and continuously reviews and improves the EMP to address the environmental compliance needs of each department within the University.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and internal programs and procedures through scheduled and unscheduled audits and inspections. Coordinate with faculty and staff to recommend appropriate and feasible solutions to targeted area for improvement.
  • Perform and document monthly department health and safety inspections; collaborates with affected department personnel to identify deficiencies and viable corrective actions. Assists personnel in scheduling necessary maintenance and/or repairs, acquiring and posting needed signage, etc. to attain and maintain compliance and following up on corrective actions.
  • Respond to health concerns from employees, documents observations and findings. Identifies solutions in collaboration with affected department personnel and facilitates implementation. Performs follow-ups to ensure repairs, maintenance and other activities are performed as identified and that they are effective.
  • Manage health and safety records management, data tracking and analysis activities as required by regulatory authorities and University policies and procedures.
  • Assist with preparing the annual department budget.
  • Support Facilities Department projects with safety reviews inspection and project support.
  • Performs others duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • At least four (4) years of specialized experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI and/OR other applicable federal and municipal laws, codes and regulations pertaining to safety, life safety, environmental safety and industrial hygiene.
    • Knowledge of basic safety and occupational health principles, common hazards and protective measures, including safety devices, sufficient to provide informal training sessions and appropriate educational materials to employees.
    • Knowledge of various software applications, such as Microsoft Office.
    • General knowledge of University policies and procedures.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • National Safety Professional Certification, Chemical Hygiene Officer Certification, or Industrial Hygienist Certification preferred.
    • Certified Asbestos Building Inspector.
    • Certified Bloodborne pathogen trainer.
    • Certified lockout / tag out trainer.
    • PPE trainer.
    • Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Trainer.
    • OSHA Train-the- trainer certification.
    • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certified trainer.
    • Certified Ergonomic Evaluator.
    • Air Monitoring Certification.
