University Information Services (UIS) provides technical services and enterprise applications to the University of Colorado's (CU) four campuses and the Office of the President. Position Summary:

As part of the Data Governance Enablement (DGE) team, this position exists for multiple responsibility areas of establishing, supporting and maintaining a data governance catalog product, Collibra, which exists to support the understanding of data therefore improving reporting and analytics for the university. It also supports the University of Colorado Data Governance and Management program.

The Principal Data Governance Analyst is a customer-centric position centered on collaborating with and advising key partners, communicating improvements, and facilitation of working group sessions. This position directly supports end-user adoption and continued successes of the Collibra and Data Governance program. This role provides ongoing end-user support, maintains a strong data catalog architecture environment, handles User Experience and User Interface services, develops and instructs educational user content, and provides customer instruction on BI standard processes. It also provides mentorship on data governance standards and policies.

This position reports to the Sr Director of Research, Grants, Customer Success and Data Governance and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

End-User Specific Duties:
  • Collaborate with Data Governance Enablement (DGE) team and internal and external key partners to establish and maintain services in the CU Data Governance program
  • Facilitate and participate in working group, key partner, leadership, and/or technical meetings to understand strategy and requirements; review documentation and supports user needs
  • Lead and facilitate the process for Use Case requirements gathering, value assessment, approval, and implementation.
  • Provide and support CU Metagovernance recommendations including Asset Models and Operating Models
  • Provide domain expertise regarding Collibra User Experience, functionality, and CU Data Catalog services
  • Facilitate metadata creation, curation, validation, and refinement.
  • Facilitate review and approval of metadata through standard and exception processes
  • Develop CU Data Governance and CU data catalog learning materials, to deliver content, policies, standards, etc. to CU users; collaborate with others to provide' communication, change management, and educational support of users.
  • Responsible to build product content for internal communication and websites
  • Assist in metadata standards development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance
  • Provide business rules and standards, education and support, metadata mentorship, and data quality standards support to domain experts, key partners, stewards and custodians, team members, etc.
  • Communicate and promote value of data governance
  • Assist with supervising compliance with data policies, standards, and procedures
  • Assist in Data Governance project management implementation support

Product Specific Duties:
  • Collaborate with DGE and DG partners to maintain and extend Collibra functionality via prioritized use cases and team internal technical roadmap.
  • Analyze CU business needs and develop specifications for DGE technical resources to build Collibra functionality to support Data Governance such as Workflows, technical lineage diagrams
  • May configure, maintain and extend end user impacting functionality of Collibra platform via features such as UI, dashboards, views, filters, search, metrics etc.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Data Issue/Request Management Process
  • Assist the Data Governance Lead with Collibra Issue/Request Management Process, communication, and prioritization
  • Collaborate with DGE and other UIS and campus teams to identify and resolve issues with Collibra
  • Manage processes to establish, communicate and ensure data status and quality levels in Collibra/CU Data Catalog which meets CU's established Metadata Standards.
  • Design CU metadata model, develop outcomes for Collibra required to enable and/or support data governance and management capabilities.
  • Identify, analyze, and detail existing repositories or data management practices, write functional specifications and business process documentation, document current and future state practices, design workflows for the design, configuration and expansion of the CU Data Catalog and Data Governance.
  • Establish and lead a CU Data Catalog Software standard processes documentation
  • Assist in the system design and management in collaboration with CU Data Catalog team, advising on technical environment management, upgrades, metadata ingestion, data validation, configuration, workflow and dashboard design, testing, user security, etc.
  • Assist with solving any issues or bugs introduced into the Collibra tool or processes.
  • Assist with regular evaluation of Collibra adoption and engagement
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Please ensure your resume includes any and all relevant experience to be accurately assessed against these qualifications. You must meet all minimum requirements listed at the time of application to be considered for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis)
  • Four (4) years' data and business intelligence experience, which includes:
    • Business or process analysis
    • Professional experience with data, reporting, data warehousing, and data governance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six (6) years' experience as detailed above
  • Leading data governance processes
  • Experience with the Collibra data catalog tool (as user or completion of more formal Collibra training)
  • Experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience reporting on data warehouse data, exposure to star-schema design
  • Detailed understanding of the software development life cycle
  • Experience facilitating training sessions for large audiences
  • Solid grasp of ETL code, SQL, database design and data modeling
  • Professional experience developing reports using Cognos and/or Tableau

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To be successful in this position, employees will need to know the following:
  • Ability to build and optimally deliver business process documentation, and effectively use project management tools, (project plans, RACI, user requirements, technical specifications, etc.) and business software.
