Position Summary:

Seattle University has an exciting, dynamic opportunity for a Campus Security Officer to join our community. Under the direction of the Public Safety Supervisor or their designee, provide security, safety and community services to University employees, students and visitors. Work includes rotating shifts and campus closures (holidays). Essential employees receive premium compensation for work during holidays and evening hours.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Provide campus wide safety and security services for campus community members and university's physical property. Provide patrol presence to prevent, deter and respond to campus safety and criminal incidents. Provide crime prevention and safety information and support to the campus community.
  • Provide first responder services and coordination for criminal, fire, medical and safety hazard incidents, and work with emergency responder services to resolve incidents. Provide documented written reports for criminal and safety incidents on campus.
  • Operate the campus public safety communication center. Monitor security and fire life safety systems and dispatch responders. Responsible for maintaining a computer aided dispatch program to track calls, incidents reporting and response, and field officer activity.
  • Provide basic repairs to return systems to normal operation. Inspect fire life safety systems for basic functions and replace bad or defective smoke detection heads to return them to normal operation. Respond to elevator emergency calls and assist in coordinating repair response.
  • Provide parking information and perform parking enforcement duties on the campus.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma and one or more years in a customer service role.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, walking, and running significant distances; restrain and take into custody another person; receive university sponsored self-defense training; lift or otherwise move up to the weight of a person; climb stairs; occasionally work at heights above 30 feet. Must be able to perform duties in confined spaces and varying outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written form, including use of two-way radio, telephone, and in face-to-face contacts. Must be able to give or take direction in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age in order to legally enter a licensed or unlicensed drinking establishment to enforce rules and regulations. Valid Washington State driver's license required.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary: $49,800 per year

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
