Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Dean of the Manufacturing, Construction, & Transportation pathway, provides both theoretical and practical instruction to students in our cabinetmaking shop. Employees in this job function as professional Trades Instructors, completing or overseeing a variety of assignments to provide vocational training for students in MATC cabinet making shop facilities. Work is performed by providing individual and group instruction by means of demonstrations, sketches, explanations, and visual aids. Required to keep current with the latest trends and technologies in discipline.
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.
Educational Minimum Requirements: Must have at least one of the following:
- Completion of a carpentry or woodworking registered apprenticeship. OR;
- A technical diploma in cabinet making or architectural woodworking, OR;
- 60 college credits
Occupational Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent (14,000 hours) of experience as a cabinet maker or architectural woodworker.
- In addition, one of the following must be met:
- At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years, OR
- Two (2) years of teaching carpentry course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years. (One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time of four (4) semesters part-time)

- Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
- Emerging Technologies - Experience with social networking applications)
Supplemental Information
Start Date: This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start in the spring 2025 semester; 16 week classes start mid-January.
Position Details: This position part-time pool position and we are seeking candidates who are available to teach classes during daytime (normal business hours) only for the spring semester. The number of hours worked per week will vary based on course load. Hours and location are based on enrollment and departmental need.
Modality: In-Person Only
Salary: Hourly rate of $70 per hour is equivalent to the base rate of $40/hour multiplied by the number of hours per course times 1.75 hours which covers office hours and prep time for instructional activities. Activities conducted outside of teaching (non-instructional), require approval and will be paid at the base hourly rate of $40.
