The position serves as a liaison between MSU Denver students, staff, and our third-party collection agencies. This position is responsible for communicating with students on various payment options to resolve account balances and assisting with financial registration holds to minimize bad debt risk while maximizing enrollment and student success. The position reconciles payments received from the agencies and assists with a variety of responsibilities associated with managing delinquent accounts and the Office of the Bursar general duties.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Evaluate student accounts to answer questions regarding billing, College Opportunity Funds (COF), 1098Ts, Bankruptcy, appeals, financial holds, etc.
- Communicate with students regarding past due balances to provide possible funding and payment plan options through email, phone, and in-person interaction.
- Maintain and update accounts with external agencies, following State rules and University guidelines.
- Post payments collected at collection agencies to student accounts and reconcile agency semi-monthly/monthly reports.
- Gather and report debt validation information, and other information as needed, to the collections agencies and serve as a main point of contact to resolve issues and answer questions.
- Report tax offsets to collection agencies and reconcile accounts after the agency posts payments.
- Review multiple Banner reports on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
- Assist with bankruptcy notices and discharge adjustments.
- Provide excellent customer service and inform students about general policies, deadlines, refunds, and payments. May be required to assist students at the front desk and answer general office email, when needed, in addition to answering daily calls and emails.
- Assist with 1098T requests, as needed.
- Serve as a liaison with other departments, such as the offices of Financial Aid and Registrar.
- Adhere to university policies and procedures, including FERPA.
Required Qualifications
- Three years of customer service experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an institution of higher education.
- Experience with Banner system or similar related financial database system.
- Experience using and applying state and federal regulations.
- Experience with managing delinquent accounts/accounts receivable.

Work Hours
40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 7:45am - 4:45pm with a possibility of being hybrid
Salary for Announcement
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $45,300- $56,650. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
