The Division for Teaching Innovation and Program Strategy has an opening for a Part-time (40%) University Staff (unclassified) Instructional Accessibility Specialist.

This job can be performed remotely but will be required to work on the Denver campus occasionally.

Jobs in this career family provide general business operations of the organization or a combination of operational responsibilities covering multiple career families. Functions include institutional research, statistical analysis, policy development and review, strategic planning and broad unit business operations such as parking and transportation services, risk management, childcare services, real estate and property management, retail services or job responsibilities that combine fiscal, HR and operational management responsibilities.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Position Emphasis

The Instructional Accessibility Specialist is a part-time, temporary position that provides hands-on guidance, support and training to faculty, assists in the creation of accessibility documentation, and is an advocate for accessibly of course content across all schools and colleges on campus. As a part of the Teaching Innovation and Program Strategy (TIPS) division, the Instructional Accessibility Specialist will help to evaluate and improve the accessibility of course material, provide technology training related to accessibility tools, and help advance teaching and learning at CU Denver through innovative, research-based, and practical application of pedagogies and technologies that support accessibility of course content.

This position reports to the Director of Academic Technology and Training.

This position has no supervisory oversight.

This position is a part-time, temporary (2 year position).

Examples of Work Performed

Training and Support
  • Provides hands-on guidance, support and training to faculty in effectively utilizing accessibility features in Canvas, and third-party tools like Blackboard Ally.
  • Works with instructors, departments, and other university partners to review the accessibility of existing courses and suggest appropriate revisions.
  • Assists in the creation of accessible templates, guidelines, and resources to aid faculty in producing universally designed course materials.
  • Troubleshoots issues regarding instructional accessibility and provide solutions.

Collaboration and Advocacy
  • Collaborates with the instructional design group to evaluate and improve the accessibility of course material, contributes to the planning and execution of instructor development around accessibility, and supports university efforts related to instructional accessibility, including universal design for learning efforts.
  • Works with other departments and university partners to determine high need areas of instructional accessibility.
  • Contributes to the development of accessibility policies, procedures, and initiatives at the institutional level.

Research
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry standards, guidelines, and legal requirements related to digital accessibility in higher education through the participation in workshops, seminars, and conferences related to accessibility, and share acquired knowledge with the broader educational community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in education, educational technology, instructional design, or a related field of study.
  • One (1) year of experience as a teacher, trainer, technologist, or similar with responsibility for creating and facilitating learning experiences.

Conditions of Employment: this is a two (2) year term limited position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in instructional technology, education, instructional design, a related field, or commensurate experience (3 or more additional years of experience performing similar work). A combination of advanced education/certification and experience may also be considered.
  • Experience coaching university faculty in the use of academic technologies.
  • Experience supporting and administering academic technologies.
  • Experience creating instructional media for a higher education audience.
  • Experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and/or accessibility best practices and standards.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range (or salary range) for this position has been established at $24,499 - $26,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
