William Paterson University invites application for the part-time position of Advisor, Graduate Programs.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Education, the Advisor, Graduate Programs provides support for the enrollment, program progression and completion of graduate students in the College of Education aimed at academic success and positive student experiences.

The position works collaboratively with COE faculty chairs and program directors, the Office of Graduate Admissions, the Office of the Registrar, and other University offices in the development and implementation of initiatives to enhance students' educational experiences at William Paterson University.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participates in graduate recruitment and registration events.
  • Provides guidance to prospective applicants on program eligibility and requirements.
  • Reviews applications and renders decision recommendations based on faculty-determined criteria.
  • Advises incoming and current graduate students, online and in-person, on course selection and registration, including issuing course permits.
  • Confers with department chairs and program directors as necessary to address student issues.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with offices across the University to address student issues including academic performance, probation, academic integrity, financial barriers, health and wellness challenges, student visas, and others.
  • Conducts graduation audits.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate to the position.


Qualifications
  • Graduate degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education or a related field
  • Two (2) years professional experience, preferably in higher education advisement.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software and Enterprise Systems (Banner and/or Workday preferred)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend hours.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
