Lab Aide II

Job Summary

Responsible for collecting, processing, and shipping all research samples for clinical trials managed by the Huntsman Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Office. The incumbent will be familiar with a variety of research laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures.

Responsibilities
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Essential Functions
  • Follows procedures and work practices related to collection, processing, storage and
  • shipment of research specimens as defined in lab manuals, protocols and study-specific reference materials.
  • Responsible for validation of SP requests and preparation of kits and other materials
  • for specimen collections per standard lab practices.
  • Responsible for primary trial assignments and related duties.
  • Ensures specimen integrity through appropriate handling and accurate labeling of specimens, related requisitions, and documentation.
  • Manages time and workload efficiently and prioritizes workflow effectively; able to assess workload and communicate when deadlines cannot be met.
  • Adheres to safe laboratory practices while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Communicates & collaborates effectively with all groups within the CTO, Sponsors, and Clinic/Hospital Staff.
  • Able to work independently; demonstrates adequate problem-solving skills and awareness of available resources.


Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Laboratory Aide, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.

  • Capable of multitasking and paying attention to details
  • Able to resolve issues with co-workers, CRCs, RDCs, Central Labs, and Sponsors with minimal input from management and leadership
  • Proficiency using Excel, Word, and Outlook, and Internet applications
  • Works as part of a team and recognizes when other team members need support
  • One year full-time laboratory experience or equivalency (1 year full-time lab equivalency equals successful completion of 2 semesters of laboratory (college) coursework)
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment and terminology as well as knowledge of chemical and physical properties of materials or substances and appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred.
