Position Announcement
The faculty of the Interdisciplinary Studies Department/Program for Accelerated College Education in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications from individuals for a tenure track position in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies/Program for Accelerated College Education in the College of Arts and Humanities.
Responsibilities
Duties include teaching upper-level undergraduate humanities courses in American literature (broadly defined) and culture for the major and General Education (in person and online); pursuing a program of active scholarly ; student advising; curriculum development; working with community partners; student recruitment; and assuming department, college and university committee responsibilities.
The Department
The department offers a single degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with four Areas of Concentration: American Studies, Comparative Cultures, Environmental Studies, and Global Studies as well as a complementary group of minors. It is not only a rigorous upper division academic program that values a broad-based Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum but also a degree completion program designed to help working adults attain their baccalaureate degrees. IDS/PACE serves a student population that is diverse across all factors, including race, gender, ethnicity, class, ability, and age. The department maintains an active presence in the university and in the community through partnerships with local community colleges and public-sector employers.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in English, American Studies, or related field in hand by August 15, 2017
Evidence of a minimum of two years of effective solo (non-teaching assistant) college teaching experience
Ability to teach upper division humanities courses at the undergraduate level
Ability to teach courses in one or more of the following specializations: the literature and culture of the American West, Los, Angeles, the Pacific Rim, Environmental Literature, Borderlands, U.S Ethnic literature, and the Digital Humanities
Evidence of successful research and scholarly production
Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds, including adoption of appropriate pedagogical strategies for diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of successful online instruction
Demonstrated experience in department/college/university service
Demonstrated experience with pedagogies that promote student success, retention, and graduation.

CSU Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system. CSU Dominguez Hills is a comprehensive public university located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. With approximately 300 full-time faculty, the University serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 15,000 students in an urban setting.
