The Outdoor Recreation Economy professional graduate program (ORE) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Business Sustainability in the Outdoor Recreation Economy (ORE) program beginning Fall 2026. ORE is an interdisciplinary professional master's degree that equips students with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to address complex challenges related to the ORE. ORE creates impact for the broader outdoor industry through applied research and project delivery for organizational partners, the development of strong and productive external partnerships, and the cultivation of innovators and inclusive leaders. We are committed to supporting the entire outdoor recreation economy through innovative approaches to economic development, the management of resilient public lands and waterways, the creation of inclusive spaces, and the promotion of sustainable business practices.
The successful candidate will possess significant academic as well as professional experience in sustainable business practices in the outdoor recreation industry, as well as experience across a range of business functions that can be applied to the outdoor industry sector. The candidate should be:

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The successful applicant will teach in the ORE Program (in both the Introduction to the ORE and the Leading a Sustainable Business Certificates), direct the Leading a Sustainable Business Certificate, perform a variety of advising and administrative responsibilities, and participate in innovative and impactful professional activities. This position will consist of 85% teaching and other responsibilities of ORE program management and 15% service, including the following primary responsibilities:
- Teaching. The candidate will teach online professional graduate courses.
- Leading. The candidate will serve as the faculty lead for the Leading a Sustainable Business Certificate. This will include overseeing the curriculum and faculty and advising students.
- This position will also include engaging in creative work related to professional practice.
What You Should Know
This position is comprised of a 50% nine-month academic-year Assistant Teaching Professor appointment and includes a summer appointment. The position includes teaching, advising, administrative duties, and professional work.
What We Can Offer
We can offer $30,000-$45,000, commensurate with experience.

What We Require
- A Ph.D., EdD, DBA, MBA, or a J.D.
- At least five (5) years of significant relevant experience through innovative professional practice directly related to sustainability and business in the outdoor recreation economy.

- Personal qualities should include a spirit of collaboration, a passion for learning and the requisite humility that is required when working in an emergent field with creative, professional students.
- Strong interpersonal skills and self-directedness are a must for this team-based program with a startup mindset.
- Demonstrating a deep understanding of professional practices related to business sustainability in the outdoor recreation industry.
- Developing, facilitating relationships with, and serving as a resource to external organizations and communities.
- Demonstrating impact and innovation within the professional practice.
