Position Description
The Senior Residential Community Coordinator (SRCC) is a live-in, non-exempt professional staff member responsible for leading a vibrant, supportive living and learning community for Seattle University students at the South Lake Union (SLU) campus. The SRCC oversees the residential student experience at SLU, supervising 15-30 student leaders and one to two graduate assistants, while serving as the main point of professional contact for a residential campus of approximately 350 students, when fully occupied.
This collaborative role supports the implementation of Housing and Residence Life's (HRL) Redhawk Residential Experience (RRE), aligned with the university's mission, Jesuit Catholic values, and strategic priorities, while coordinating key operational functions for a highly effective residential environment.
As a member of the HRL Senior Team, the SRCC serves in a 24/7/365 on-duty and crisis response rotation for the SLU campus. Reporting to the Associate Director for Community Engagement and Learning Initiatives (AD, CELI), the SRCC works with significant independence and partners closely with the SLU Director for Student Engagement & Support, the HRL Lead Team, and Capstone Management (COCM) to provide comprehensive holistic student support. The SRCC also collaborates frequently with the Senior Coordinator for Residential Education (SCRE) on the recruitment, selection, training, and development of HRL student employees for the SLU campus.
Essential Functions
Student Leader Development & Supervision (20%).
- Supervise 8-10 Resident Assistants (RAs) and Desk Assistants (DAs).
- Supervise 1-2 graduate-level Assistant Residential Community Coordinators (ARCCs).
- Co-lead the recruitment, selection, formation, and development of student leader staff in collaboration with the Senior Coordinator for Residential Education (SCRE).
- Serve on departmental committees that design, facilitate, and lead student staff formation sessions and other departmental gatherings (i.e. Formation Nights).
Residential Student Learning & Community Engagement (20%)
- Maintain knowledge of campus academic resources and provide appropriate referrals.
- Implement the Redhawk Residential Experience (RRE) using departmental education plans, learning strategies, and facilitation guides.
- Advise and support RAs through the community connection planning process, including tracking and assessment of community initiatives.
- Track Hawk Talks (Intentional Interactions) between RAs and residential students and engage in data review and action planning with the departmental RRE Committee.
- Partner with the SLU Campus Life team and various campus resources to foster supportive, engaging, data-driven programming and activities for the SLU campus.
- Serve on or chair departmental collaterals and committees related to Student Staff Recruitment and Formation, Graduate Formation and Selection, and the Redhawk Residential Experience.
Student Care, Formation, and Crisis Response (20%)
- Maintain knowledge of University and Housing & Residence Life policies and procedures with the ability to direct students to appropriate resources. Advises and refers individual students and groups regarding personal and academic needs.
- Educate staff and residents on safety and security concerns and appropriate emergency response procedures.
- Serve in the professional staff 24/7 duty rotation for the SLU campus, including consultation with on-duty RAs and leadership team members, and making appropriate referrals for students.
- Engage in Care case management and refer students to appropriate resources.
- Serve as hearing officer supporting student learning and formation while holding students accountable to the Redhawk Commitment, Code of Conduct, and Resident Handbook. Includes conducting Administrative Hearings and writing related conduct letters and correspondence.
- Conduct low-level residential floor ownership and resident follow-up from a developmental perspective aligned with campus and departmental values.
Building Operations & Financial Management (15%)
- Work with COCM staff to support and address maintenance, building and student needs related to facilities management.
- Oversee the coordination of the SLU HRL front desk, managing various service functions.
- Facilitate processes to ensure physical spaces are kept in good condition and damages to the facility are tracked and communicated to residents for appropriate accountability.
- Manage and track community budget that include programming, office supplies, and student staff payroll.
- Utilize a variety of purchasing methods to support events in the community.
- Utilize and manage university procurement card and reconciliation protocol.
Administration (15%)
- Communicate departmental needs and instructions to staff and students. Solicit staff and student input in decision-making, as appropriate. Facilitate effective communication between all staff and students.
- Attend weekly departmental meetings with Housing and Residence staff and meet weekly with the AD - CELI.
- Meet with various SLU staff (i.e. Director of Student Engagement & Support) on an as-needed basis.
- Support departmental processes for the move-in and closing of the SLU Residential campus.[KS2]
- Assist with the implementation and evaluation of HRL's strategic plan.
- Serve as the HRL liaison to other student development functional areas and academic support units.
- Perform other duties as assigned by HRL and the Student & Campus Life Team within the broader Division of Academic & Student Affairs.
Other Duties (10%)
- Serve as part of the Senior Team 24/7/365 on-call duty rotation for the SLU campus, providing consultation to on-call RAs and responding to incidents affecting student safety and wellbeing. Note that on-call responsibilities may occur on weekends and holidays.
- Serve on departmental committees, task forces, and project teams as assigned.
- Serve on Student & Campus Life and broader university committees and working groups assigned.
- Attend staff meetings, quarterly in services, retreats, and other formation as directed.
- Attend high profile programs and events on both the First Hill and South Lake Union campuses as directed and maintain a high level of visibility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, psychology, education, or related field and two years of continuous previous experience as a Residential Community Coordinator, Resident Director, or equivalent position, or combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field and three years of continuous previous experience in residence life demonstrating acumen for conducting the full range of responsibilities associated with the position's essential functions.
- The ideal applicant will possess the ability to use student learning and development theory as it relates to implementing the Redhawk Residential Experience, a commitment to being a student-centered educator, and to the concepts of community, service and social justice, diversity, integration of academic and campus life, and holistic development.
- Excellent interpersonal, crisis management, managerial, and community engagement skills are necessary, as well as an understanding and/or openness to the values of Jesuit/Catholic Higher Education.

- In-depth knowledge of student development and leadership theories, especially as they apply to residential education.
- Strong understanding of risk management and student safety protocols in a residential setting.
- Familiarity with best practices in recruitment, selection, and supervision of student staff.

- Understanding of higher education systems, including student retention strategies, academic support frameworks, and faculty engagement.
- Awareness of the Jesuit educational mission and values, and how to translate them into residential learning environments.
- Budget management fundamentals, especially as applied to student organizations and programmatic planning.
Skills:

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $44,900
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months.
